What Robert Pattinson wants, R.Pattz gets—Kinda.

See, when the race for who'd direct Breaking Dawn was abuzz with Oscar contenders, Robby was smart to name-drop a certain talented someone that he'd love to say take over, saying "I think Gus Van Sant would be great to do it."

And Van Sant almost did it—which makes us wonder, how fabulously different would the flick be?

Way different. But let's back up for a sec—why the ef didn't Gus get the job?

Apparently Gus was super interested when he heard the vamp wanted him aboard the project, and he set up a meeting with The Powers That Be over at Summit. But that's about as far as it went.

"I got very nervous," Gus 'fessed to MTV this week at Cannes. "I guess I was unprepared for it. Usually people just hire me."

Bummer!

We're still totally cool with Bill Condon directing the final two films—has a friggin Oscar, after all, and can totally nail the sexuality of Stephenie Meyer's sexiest scenes—but imagine how different it would be if Gus was at the helm!

Gus specializes in seriously dark material and still can still manage to make it look totally gorge on the big screen.

Plus, who knows, maybe the man who made Milk would finally deliver some shirtless, ab-tastic flirting between Edward and Jacob. Or maybe that's just our wishful Twilight daydreams? Right, Moromonastic Stephenie created the characters, so, never mind.

So, we'll just have to see how Billy does when the first part of Breaking Dawn hits theatres this November.

But who would you have liked to see direct the final films of the Twilight series: Bill, Gus, or someone completely different?
