Are Celeb Twitter Feuds the New Trending Topics?

Why are celebs picking fights on social networks for all to see?

From @JoanRivers vs. @LindsayLohan to @LeannRimes vs. @BrandiGlanville, Twitter feuds are the new way for celebs to not only gain followers, but to keep their boldface names in the press.

So what is the real reason celebs pick on other celebs behind the safety of their computer screens?

LeAnn Rimes and Brandi Glanville are notorious for going back and forth about how much they love or hate each other.

One minute the former and current Mrs. Cibrians are tweeting about pizza parties attended together, the next moment we hear from Brandi that, gasp, "Someone is obviously stalking my facebook & copies my every move, even my bikini pics!! Creepy! I said it once I will say it again STALKER!!"

How dare that country songstress steal Brandi's man and then her bikini pose?!

Then we've got the one-sided catfight. John Legend's Sports Illustrated-model girlfriend Chrissy Teigen tweeted some nasty remarks (apparently her take on a Seinfeld quote) about Avril Lavigne after watching an interview with the punk pop star. Avril hasn't responded to Chrissy's feelings about her, so she gets a "classy point" there, but Teigen's tweets are usually so freakin' funny that we'll pardon her rudeness this time around.

Then there's the case of the fake-feud. Example A: When Rihanna tweeted that Khloé Kardashian Odom and Lamar's constant PDAfests make her want to "barf"—in a good way, apparently.

But our favorite kind of feud is when generations (and collagen lips) collide, such as in the case of Joan Rivers vs. Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson

After Rivers tweeted some jokes (such as this gem: "Lindsay Lohan said she wouldn't mind being under oath because she thought Oath was a Norwegian ski instructor"), LiLo's on-again, off-again girl Ronson came to her defense, tweeting, "Hey Joan Rivers- you have collagen older than Lindsay, pick on someone your own age, oh wait, I guess people that old can't hear."

Oh we hear that, sista.
