Forget Brüno, Umlaut and All, Watch This Instead!
We already told you to skip seeing Brüno this weekend, which has become some big-budget, mass-marketed, pansy-baiting event that misses its main purpose—being funny. Instead, check out the above skewering of Brüno in That's Gay, a minisegment on Current TV's infoMania show, which is infinitely sharper and far less obvious than Sacha Baron Cohen's pandering, schtick-heavy flick.
By the way, gotta wonder how many millions were wasted on making Brüno...
When something as (seemingly) effortless as That's Gay can be made for basically zero bucks? "The only cost was renting the movies for the clips," says L.A. comedian Bryan Safi, writer and star of That's Gay, whose show has also tackled gay stereotypes in the media and same-sex marriage in a superhilarious fashion.
Oh, and I'm afraid the Awful Truth must duly report that Safi personally thought "parts of [Brüno] worked great; parts of it didn't. But [Sacha Baron Cohen] is hilarious, and it's not so offensive that it does any harm to anyone."
You're too kind, Bry. What, you trying to get cast in Cohen's next sorry flick? Forget that. He should hire you to direct the damn thing.
