Prince William: Real Royalty to Move to Malibu?

Prince William, Kate Middleton Solo/ZumaPress.com

Mel Gibson might think he "owns" Malibu, as he exclaimed in his infamous DUI diatribe, but some new royalty may be moving into his territory. According to local real estate insiders, Prince William and GF Kate Middleton are shopping for a Malibu love nest. Brody Jenner as the prince of Malibu seems totally laughable now, doesn't it? (It was always absurd to us!)

"It is legitimate," says Ruth Ryon, senior real estate columnist at realestatechannel.com, which first broke the story. "He was here for a few days a couple of weeks ago." Ryon says real estate agents were "quite surprised to be showing properties to a prince," including an $8 million, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath compound with a guesthouse, four-car garage and an ocean view. Unfortunately for Prince W., that place was sold before he could snatch it up. But that doesn't mean he'll give up lookin' for his perf beach pad!

So why the 'Bu of all places?

Princess Di, you may recall, was thinking about moving from the U.K. to Malibu before her fatal car crash. Will must have some backward wish to honor his mama by moving across the pond and next to the Pacific. But is he making the best decision to plant some roots in L.A. of all places?

Party-loving princes Will and Harry, who undoubtedly will spend a fair amount of his holiday visiting his bro, would push Posh and Becks out of the purified water when it comes to British imports moving their reign into Hollywood. Can you imagine how horrifying the amount of paparazzi would be in Malibu with actual royalty around, as opposed to just princess of pop Britney? More importantly, do they realize how outta control it'll be? We can already smell a countdown to a double DUI on PCH after a party at Paris' place. Charles'll have to hop on a jet to come bail 'em out!

A spokesperson for the British Embassy in the U.S. tells E!, "Prince William has never been on any official visits to the United States," but house hunting isn't official princely business, is it?

We give Will and Kate six months before they realize they're too respectable to stay in trash-lovin' L.A. and hightail it to another country. Why not join Brangelina in one of their overseas abodes? Real estate buzz on the street is that the Brangie bunch is buying a place in Portugal to add to their collection of villas and mansions all over the world. Brad and Angie are smart enough to realize they're talked about enough without living in the heart of Hollywood—so maybe Prince Will really wants the added attention? Wouldn't doubt it!
