Apatow Gang to Get Animated?

While a futuristic, silver-suited Reese Witherspoon walked the Monsters vs. Aliens carpet without her Gyllendude—was he too busy riding bikes with other amigos?—her costar, Seth Rogen, had all his best buds on display.
Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and writer-director Judd Apatow showed up to support the newly skinny star at the 3-D flick's premiere at the Gibson Amphitheatre. "I'm always here to support Seth," said Apatow. What a friend, right? "He pays me to come."
We asked Judd if he'd ever make his own animated flick with his regular cast of off-color cohorts—his wife, Leslie Mann, Seth, Jonah, Paul and the flash-happy Jason Segel.
You'll be surprised by the A-list director's answer:
"I wrote one once many years ago, and they said they didn't like it. And that was it," sighed J.A.
What? You mean you don't wriggle your nose and projects come to life just like that? Who the ef is turning the No. 1 comedy director down anymore?
Judd remains hopeful about his animated adventures, though: "I think maybe they'll pull it out of the stack. I was burned from animation earlier in my career. Maybe I'll take another run at it—just so I don't have to deal with human beings."
That's true, animated stars never suffer from exhaustion or dehydration. Just one thing, Judd, if ya ever do make a 3-D romp, leave your Knocked Up star Katherine Heigl out of it. Her ego's big enough as it is without being multidimensional.
