Gossip Girl Spinoff: Meet the Cast of the CW's Lily

Sources confirm that the CW is in advanced talks to bring Cynthia Watros (Lost) and Andrew McCarthy (Lipstick Jungle) onboard the Gossip Girl spinoff tentatively titled Lily. Cynthia and Andrew would play CeCe and Rick Rhodes, Lily's parents and Serena's grandparents. (Caroline Lagerfelt plays CeCe on the current series.)
With mom and pop cast, the producers have now filled out the starting regular-castmember lineup for Lily. Yay!
And some more good news for us dual Gossip Girl-Veronica Mars fans: Reps for Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars, Party Down) confirm that he will also hook up with Lily in the '80s, reportedly as one of her new Valley pals.
Already onboard and previously announced:
- Brittany Snow (American Dreams, Nip/Tuck) will be young Lily Rhodes. (Kelly Rutherford plays her on the current series as a grown, much-married woman)
- Shiloh Fernandez is set to play Owen, a possible love interest for Lily.
- Our girl Krysten Ritter (Veronica Mars, Breaking Bad) will be Lily's wild-child older sister Carol.
Also appearing in the "backdoor pilot" episode airing May 11 is No Doubt, playing themselves in the 1980s before Gwen Stefani went solo, back when they were just kids.

Krysten Ritter Confirms Brittany Snow to Play Young Lily: "It's Official!"
If you've been following the saga of the Gossip Girl spinoff, you may have heard that American Dreams star Brittany Snow was in the running to play the future Lily van der Woodsen (née Rhodes and played by Kelly Rutherford on the existing show, of course).
Well, we caught up with confirmed spinoff castmember Krysten Ritter last night at the premiere party for her current show, Breaking Bad, and she revealed that Snow is a go to play her sister!
She told us exclusively, "They just cast Brittany Snow. It's definitely official, and I think I'm the first one to know that. It wasn't official earlier, I saw on the Internet, but now it is official."
But what else does she know about the characters and, most important, their hair? Here's what Krysten dished...
Update
Brittany Snow a Lily Possibility for Gossip Girl Spinoff
Update Friday, 10:13 a.m.: Krysten Ritter confirms to E! exclusively that Brittany Snow will play young Lily: "It's official!"

Looks like it might Snow when Lily Rhodes takes Los Angeles.
The CW isn't talking, but a source confirms to E! News that Brittany Snow is in talks to join the upcoming Gossip Girl spinoff, which will take Serena van der Woodsen's mum back to her teen years growing up in 1980s-era L.A.
GG's May 11 episode will also incorporate a back-door pilot for the new show and then, in all likelihood, it's on to the 2009-2010 TV season!
From her convincing turn as an entitled prom queen type in Hairspray and her series-carrying and, at times, sensitive performance in the late, great Amerian Dreams, it seems to us that Snow's got the chops to carry Kelly Rutherford's Lily into the next previous generation.
Already cast are Krysten Ritter, who's playing Lily's older sis, and Shiloh Fernandez as a Valley rat who has just enough style to go along with the scruff.
Do you feel Snow would be a casting coup or should Josh Schwartz & Co. keep looking for a lass to fill Lily's soul-searching shoes?

Gossip Scoop: Who Should Play Lily in La-La Land?
The Gossip Girl spinoff is gearing up. In case you haven't heard, the show will launch as an episode of the original series and, in episode 24, we'll travel to Los Angeles for a look back at the life of Lily Rhodes (Kelly Rutherford) when she was a lost young soul slumming around the Valley.
Can't picture it yet? Do you remember The Valley, that show that Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson) was obsessed with on The O.C.? Cross that with Serena van der Woodsen and you should have it!
Now, how did Lily end up over the hill? Where and when will the pilot shoot? Click in to find out, plus get the rest of the juicy deets on the Rhodes family...
Frak Yeah! BSG Spinoff Caprica Goes to Series
As Battlestar Galactica begins the countdown to its series finale, there is new life in the franchise!
Sci Fi Channel announced today that it's picking up Caprica, the spinoff series set 50 years before the Cylon attack that sent the ragtag fleet on its mission to Earth. The series is a family drama about the Adamas (as in Admiral Bill and Major Lee Adama) and the Graystones, during the era when computer engineers were brainstorming the first Cylon technology.
The series stars Esai Morales as Bill Adama's father Joseph; Eric Stoltz and Paula Malcolmson as wealthy capitalists Daniel and Amanda Graystone, parents to Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Torresani); and Polly Walker as the imperious headmistress at Zoe Graystone's school.
But how many episodes of life in the pre-apocalypse Twelve Colonies will we get?
And when does the show premiere?
NBC Bosses Dish on Office Spinoff and Poehler Show
NBC Universal execs Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff just took the stage here at the TV Critics Press Tour, and they were just bursting at the seams with scoop about The Office spinoff. OK, not really, but I know many of you fellow Office die-hards are also hanging onto every word when it comes to the Dunder-verse (as am I), and there were some solid revelations, so here we go...
The newly announced Amy Poehler show will not be an Office spinoff, but they are still working on an Office spinoff.
A little confusing, yes, but based on what the NBC suits said, the just-announced project with Amy Poehler is not a fork of an Office story; it exists as a stand-alone, but it will have a similar tone and style, since it comes from the same writer-producers. At the same time, the execs and writers are also working on an Office spinoff, which will come from the world of Dunder Mifflin.
Rumor Patrol: Rashida Jones in Office Spinoff?
Consider this only a rumor for the time being. However, word has been rippling through the TV biz today that Rashida Jones (aka Karen Filippelli, presently of Utica, New York) may star in the upcoming NBC spinoff of The Office.
Sounds pretty amazing to this Office (and Rashida) fan, so I did a little digging, and here's where this stands: While one inside source (who has always been reliable) says "it's true" that Rashida will be a part of the new series, another source inside Rashida's camp says, "As far as I know, she has not been approached." Hmmm...
Meanwhile, a rep for Universal (which produces The Office) tells me: "Universal Media Studios has a talent holding deal with Rashida. It is premature to speculate about any potential projects she could be involved with."
So where does that leave us? Right back where we started, with this being—so far—just a fascinating, plausible and wholly unconfirmed rumor. (Hmph.) Still, I know many of you fellow fans are jonesing for a little Office fodder right about now, so I thought I'd share.
And since you asked (What? You didn't?), I'm definitely rooting for Rashida/Karen to join in on the spinoff fun. And if we can have Phyllis drop by for a makeover from time to time? Well, it'd be so good it almost hurts.
(That's what she said.)
What say you?
Exclusive! Gossip Girl Boss Says Spinoff Rumors Are Not True
Attention, Upper East Siders: "Little J" has not left the building.
This is the latest coming out of Camp Gossip Girl after the Hollywood Reporter reported this morning that executive producer Josh Schwartz and his crew are currently working on a Gossip spinoff, most likely surrounding Taylor Momsen's character, Jenny Humphrey (aka Li'l J), who was the subject of a spinoff series for the Gossip books.
I just emailed Schwartz himself to get the real story, and he tells me the rumors are not true:
"Not sure how this got out there, but no plans for spinoff at this moment," Schwartz tells me. "The books do have a spinoff, but we have nothing in the works right now other than making sure season two gets off to a great start."
Holla! Personally, I'm thrilled to hear that Schwartz is keeping his creative mojo focused on the two shows we already know and love: Chuck and Gossip Girl, you?
You know you love it.
XOXO,
TV Gossip Girl
Jennie Garth Joins CW's 90210 Spinoff
You gotta love the loyalty! Jennie Garth, who was the Queen B of her day back on the original Beverly Hills, 90210 and stayed with the series for its entire run, is officially on board for the spinoff.
According to CBS Paramount, which produces the series for the CW network, "Garth will make special guest appearances as her original character, Kelly Taylor, a guidance counselor at her alma mater, West Bev High, where our new characters attend high school."
In an industry where divas with 'tudes so often bite the hands that fed/feed them, it's just plain nice to see that Jennie is still down with the franchise that made her famous. (Dare we hope for a What I Like About You spinoff next? I miss my Jennie-Amanda Bynes tag team!)
Of course, Jennie's all grown up, and does have three kids of her own now, so franchise loyalty aside, the paycheck is no doubt appreciated. (She raises the rugrats with her man, Peter Facinelli, who was himself just cast in a pilot, Showtime's comedy about nurses led by Edie Falco.)
What do you guys think? Is it a good plan? And whatever happened to that fashion-industry thing Kelly was doing with Donna? Post your thoughts in the comments!
Nooooooo! (Part Two): Is Reaper a Goner?
Honestly, I'm not sure I can take much more of this.
After recent casting news pointed to the cancellation of this season's best new comedy, the CW's Aliens in America, I've just received word that Jessica Stroup of Reaper has been cast on the new 90210 pilot.
The good news? She's totally not the girl I thought she was: Andi (Missy Peregrym), the show's leading lady, who looks like this...
But rather Cady...aka the devil's spawn and our main man Sam's (Bret Harrison) latest love-conquest-gone-bad, who looks like this...
Why is this good news? Because Jessica is not a series regular like Missy, and so far none of the core cast of Reaper have been signed on to other series, as far as I've seen.
So here's my desperate, whiny, plea to the CW: Pleeeeease keep Reaper around. That show has become so outstanding and funny and smart in recent episodes, I might die a little if it does. And I know I'm not alone—just look at the bajillions of fan comments below. (Ahem. Yes, that is the cue for you who are reading this to profess your Reaper love below!)
As for Jessica's role on 90210, she'll play Silver, a good friend of Annie's (Shenae Grimes) who produces the YouTube type video series Answers to Life's Inane Questions Answered by a 15-Year-Old in a Bikini.
Here's one of the noninane variety: What can we Reaper fans do to save this series?
Office Scoop on Finale and Spinoff (Yay, Mose!)
Wait a minute!
NBC has confirmed that the title of the supersecret season finale of The Office is...wait for it..."Goodbye, Toby." Gaaah! Could they really be letting our favorite mumbly, bumbly HR friend go? Is this the departing castmember Jenna Fischer has hinted at?
Well, according to our sources, writer-actor Paul Lieberstein is staying with The Office. Now, does that mean he's staying on as an actor, or as a writer? Truth told, I didn't ask because I got distracted by something shiny along the way...(Sorry, but you don't want the finale ruined anyway, do you?)
Now, you ask, what was said thing so shiny? I'm hearing from sources that writer-actor Mike Schur, best known to Office viewers as Mose Schrute, Dwight's possibly inbred and fully hilarious cousin, will be running The Office spinoff along with Greg Daniels next season. Woot!
NBC declined to comment on whether that's true.
Rumors that it's a Dwight spinoff have been denied—I suspect Ed Helms' Andy is the most likely candidate, 'cause come on, just look at him!—but Mose, I mean, Mike, would certainly have the right insight into life at Schrute Farms if such a series were to be made...
Your thoughts? Toby leaving or staying? And who would you like to see most in the spinoff? Share below, please!
