So You Think You Can Dance Backstage Scoop: Which Solo Was "Horrid"?
Tonight on So You Think You Can Dance we learned that while a remarkable solo can save a dancer in danger, a totally terrible solo won't necessarily get you sent home if you have already banked enough "star moments" and sex appeal in the minds of the judges.
We've got the scoop from behind the scenes at SYTYCD that reveals why a "very good" dancer went home in place of the dancer with one of the most unchoreographed and random solos in recent memory...
So You Think You Can Dance Backstage Scoop: Did Fangirls Frak the Results?
Mollee Gray and Nathan Trasoras' devoted fan base made all the difference this week on So You Think You Can Dance. Had Mollee and Nathan's fans not voted their couple safe during last night's competition show, the bottom six would have had a different composition, and it's possible that another couple might have gone home.
So who did go home tonight, how did Mollee and Nathan change the game, and which dancer might be too sexy for her own good? Here's what we learned from chatting with the judges after the top 16 results show...
Good News: Mia Michaels Will Be Back on TV!
Attention, Mia Michaels lovers! All hope is not lost. Even though the star choreographer doesn't have any immediate plans to return to So You Think You Can Dance, she is coming back to TV before you know it. We just spoke to her, and her message to her fans is this: "Be patient, because you're gonna get a lot more Mia than you expect."
So what's the deal with her new in-the-works choreography show? Here's what we learned from chatting up the divine Ms. Michaels...
So You Think You Can Dance Backstage Scoop: Why the "Stunned" Judges Sent Bianca Home
It was a tough night for the tappers on So You Think You Can Dance. Both Bianca Revels and Phillip Attmore were sent home, but we caught up with the judges backstage and learned it didn't have to be that way.
In fact, Bianca's fate wasn't sealed until the final minutes of tonight's episode, when two judges outvoted the third and sent home Bianca, saving Noelle Marsh to dance another day.
What made the difference? Here's what we learned...
Evening News: See the First Official Promo for Lost Season Six
• Lost: Press play above to see the first teaser trailer for the final season of Lost. There's no new footage, but we got goosebumps just the same. (In other Lost news, 24 producer Jon Cassar just tweeted, "News that I will be directing a #LOST in November is not totally accurate. I am potentially going to direct an episode in the new year.")
• So You Think You Can Dance: Season four SYTYCD runner-up "tWitch" Boss is going to star as the bad guy in Stomp the Yard 2. (Studio 60 actor and former Britney Spears boyfriend Columbus Short starred in the original.)
• Better Off Ted: The bitingly funny, charmingly weird and very severely ratings-challenged Better Off Ted is scheduled to return to ABC on Dec. 8 at 9:30 p.m. The holiday season is a time for charity, so you'll watch, right?
• Grey's Anatomy: Frankie Faison is set to play Miranda Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) dad in the Nov. 19 episode of Grey's Anatomy. Who else is imagining a clash of the titans?
Now, what are you most hoping to see in season six of Lost, and how long do you think you can endure this rumored alt-timeline business? Tell us in the comments!

This Just In: Mia Michaels Finally Explains SYTYCD Departure
• So You Think You Can Dance: Mia Michaels finally did an interview about her sudden departure from SYTYCD, and she says it wasn't because she's got cancer or is going crazy, but rather, "When I was working on the show, I wasn't able to really focus on anything else. Now I'm really focusing on these other projects that I can't pass up. I think that’s pretty much the main reason why I left the show." Hmph. On the good side, however, Michaels also revealed, "Right now [I'm] in talks [to do] my own choreography show." Holler!
• Melrose Place: The first promo of Heather Locklear on Melrose Place is out. The 21-second commercial features shots of Locklear stalking through Ella's PR firm intercut with the tagline, "Amanda's back...you better watch yours."
• Lost: Carlton Cuse revealed via a series of Twitter riddles that creepy character actor William Atherton is guest starring on Lost this season.
So You Think You Can Dance: One Day You're In, and the Next Day You're Out
This reality-contestant merry-go-round is dizzying. Can we get off?
Thanks to baseball playoffs wreaking havoc on Fox's schedule, So You Think You Can Dance is all mixed up this season. Usually the two-hour competition episode would air on Tuesday, fans would vote overnight and an elimination episode would air Wednesday, but until the World Series is done, competition and elimination happens on the same night, and there's no fan voting to save couples from elimination. The judges decide among themselves who's going home.
Here's what happened during tonight's Top 20 competition, complete with pairings, dances and the identities of the two eliminees who got the full Cat Deeley precious-darling treatment on the way out:
Evening News: NBC Books Three More Episodes of Trauma
• Trauma: Woo! Trauma, the underrated San Francisco paramedic drama from Friday Night Lights producer Peter Berg, will air at least three more episodes, through Nov. 16. Trauma's not dead yet, and that's good news, because we need to know what happens between Rabbit (Cliff Curtis) and Nancy (Anastasia Griffith) after he saves her life next week.
• So You Think You Can Dance: Already they're dropping like flies! (What is this, Dancing With the Stars?) Billy Bell dropped out of SYTYCD yesterday due to illness, and now Noelle Marsh is out of tonight's competition show thanks to a busted knee.
• Two and a Half Men: We know it's technically the most popular sitcom on TV or something, but we hate that Battlestar babe Tricia Helfer is guesting on Two and a Half Men. We don't mind the skimpy lingerie though. (She's the prettiest.)
• Big Love: OK, this is just narsty, but it does explain a lot. Big Love season-four spoiler alert: Wanda (Melora Walters) and J.J.'s (Zeljko Ivanek) parents were apparently siblings. Yes, like in Flowers in the Attic, a brother and sister got together, resulting in misbegotten children, one of whom is daft (Wanda) and one whom is straight crazypants (J.J.). Blech.

So You Think You Can Dance: Wait, So Paula Abdul Is Actually an Empty Chair?
Nigel Lythgoe is a tease!
The So You Think You Can Dance executive producer got us all excited last week when he tweeted, "All you Paula Abdul fans please check out next Monday's show." So, we waited tonight, with bated breath, for the erstwhile American Idol judge to pop up on tonight's installment of So You Think You Can Dance...but we waited in vain.
Instead of delivering the real deal, Nigel presented only an empty judge's chair with Paula's name on it, saying, "I've asked somebody to come along and be a guest judge whenever they can, so I've asked [the crew] to put a chair next to me just in case [Paula Abdul] ever turns up. It'd be lovely to see her. I'm putting the pressure on her!" OK then. (This is apparently Nigel's passive-aggressive version of emotional blackmail.)
Still, even with the Paula Abdul anticlimax leading off the episode, tonight's first-ever showcase show was a doozy, and we must discuss what went down, as well as a little late-breaking (and tragic) news about this season's top 20.
Michael Jackson's Executors Have Poor Taste in TV Dance Shows
Hey, remember earlier this summer when Michael Jackson died and So You Think You Can Dance producer Nigel Lythgoe asked Janet Jackson's old choreographer Paula Abdul to participate in a Jackson-dance-tribute episode of SYTYCD, but then someone Jackson lackey put the kibosh on the whole thing?
No, you don't remember? Well, that happened, and at the time of the rejection, Lythgoe told reporters, "We put the music through to Sony and said, 'Sony, can we clear this music?' Yesterday, we got a note back—whether it's Sony or the [Jackson] family estate, I don't know—but they would not clear the music for us. It's very sad...for some reason, we can't do the show."
Well, it turns out that the kibosh was just temporary, because next week another popular TV dance series, ABC's Dancing With the Stars, is putting on a show dedicated to Jackson's fancy footwork. Read on to find out why Jacko's team went with DWTS instead of with SYTYCD (the show that totally called first dibs!) and why that was the wrong call...
Update
So You Think You Can Dance Boss Confirms Mia Michaels' Exit
Update, 2:47 p.m.:
It's all true, dammit.
So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe just released a statement about choreographer Mia Michaels' Twitter-telegraphed exit: "We are thrilled to have given a talent such as Mia Michaels a platform to create Emmy Award-winning choreography. During the auditions this season she has helped choose the best, most diverse top 20 we have ever had. She knows that she is always welcome to return later this season or next. She's chosen to move on to new challenges and we will continue to support her and wish her all the best."
OK, so now that this is real (argh!), we have to start wondering: Why is she really leaving?
Many of you seem to think this has something to do with the elevation of Adam Shankman as a permanent judge. Could that be it, or might there be something else afoot? Why do you think Mia's leaving us?
