Joel Madden: "There's a New American Spirit"
Although Joel Madden escorted Nicole Richie to the Alberta Ferretti store opening last night, he had more on his mind than just fashion. The Good Charlotte rocker and Obama supporter thinks things have already changed for the better since Barack won the election.
"Just traveling, being abroad and seeing how the world truly looks at us and feels about us hasn't been that fun over the last eight years," Joel told E! News.
"There's a new kind of American spirit...Everyone in America is proud to be an American, everyone in America is pro-America—we've just needed a leader to make us feel good about ourselves, and I think Obama does," he continued.
Turns out, he wasn't even in the states on Election Day...
Nicole Richie and Nicky Hilton: They're Just Like Us!
Who says stars aren't down-to-earth?
Last night, cheap-but-chic store H&M held a VIP preview sale for its holiday collection, and a slew of celebs came out to shop.
Nicky Hilton and Nicole Richie, who usually rock über-expensive couture, browsed the racks and cooed over clothes together.
Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish, Mandy Moore, Mena Suvari and Jamie-Lynn Sigler also hit the sale for some affordable fashion.
Maybe the recession has got the stars feeling the pinch? Either that, or they just love a good bargain like we do.
See who else was out on the town last night in the Party Pics: Hollywood gallery.
Joel Madden Thinks Obama's Got It in the Bag
Although the election hasn't happened yet, Joel Madden's money is on Barack Obama for the win.
Joel deejayed at the Breeders' Cup Winners Circle party Thursday night, telling reporters he and Nicole came out because the event benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The Good Charlotte rocker stressed that because of the economic recession, families are finding it harder to pay for children's health care.
"I'm excited for Obama to be president, because of his health-care reform," he said on the carpet at the Hollywood Palladium.
They weren't the only couple making predictions at the party...
Nicole Richie's Militant About Mom Duty
Call it the year of the comeback: Britney cleaned up and is releasing a new album. Paris is running for prez—sort of. And Nicole now spends her time pureeing green beans and sweet potatoes for daughter Harlow, according to a new People profile.
Hollywood's gone soft, and we couldn't be happier. It's not so sexy, but there's something really sweet about the fact that Nicole obsessively chronicles her kid's every move.
"She has notebooks and notebooks full of the first time she [Harlow] rolled over, the first time she laughed...Everything she's ever done is in that book," says boyfriend Joel Madden, who claims the Good Charlotte tour bus is a no-party zone these days.
So are you on board with this new and (potentially) improved version, or do you miss the wild ways of Tinseltown's onetime terrors?
Judge: Nicole Richie Progressing Nicely
Apparently learning from her mistakes, Nicole Richie has been opting for the high road.
A judge determined Wednesday that the former Simple Life star has been taking care of herself and is otherwise "in compliance" with the terms of her probation stemming from her 2006 DUI bust, a Los Angeles Superior Court clerk told E! News.
Richie—who since being caught driving the wrong way on an L.A. freeway after taking Vicodin and smoking pot has become a mom, started a charitable foundation and more or less stopped making a mockery of herself—was placed on three years' probation in July 2007.
Nicole and Joel Want You!
It may not make you Richie Rich, but it would be for a good cause.
Nicole Richie and her beau, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, are seeking an intern to help them run the website for their charity, The Richie-Madden Children's Foundation.
The job, which would involve updating content and pictures, is currently posted on Quarterlife.com. The site's organizer, Lauren Berger, tells E! News the company is "really excited" to be working with Nicole and Joel, who are looking for someone to start ASAP for the fall semester.
Other clients of Quarterlife.com include Ashton Kutcher's company Katalyst Films and Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films. "The bigger the name, the better," says Berger.
While the Richie-Madden internship is unpaid, who can put a price on helping others...or getting the chance to rub shoulders with pseudocelebs, right?
Hollywood Wears Its Politics on Its Sleeve, Hat
Whether it's "Team Heidi" or "Real Girls Eat Meat," you know celebrities care deeply about something when they put it on a T-shirt.
That's why we couldn't ignore the fact that many Tinseltown types seem to be wearing gear in support of Sen. Barack Obama's quest for the presidency. Who knew?
The pendulum always swings both ways, however. So we will await the inevitable crush of McCain '08 hats, hoodies, and decorative neck tattoos sure to turn up soon.
Until they do, though, check out our Team Obama gallery and see who supports him.
Is Ashley Tisdale Richie Rich?
Don't get us wrong: We love us some Ashley Tisdale.
Maybe it's the giant glasses or the flattened hair, but there's something about Sharpay's latest look that says "Nicole Richie Was Here." Maybe, just maybe, it's all of it.
Are we the only ones seeing double? Let us know in the comments.
Exclusive
Nicole's Roman à Richie Headed to TV
Nicole Richie is preparing to tell the truth—to an extent.
The former Simple Life star exclusively tells E! News that a TV show based on her 2005 coming-of-age novel The Truth About Diamonds is in the works and she's gearing up to be a part of the production.
"I would definitely produce and definitely be in the show," the socialite says, although she stopped short of saying she would play the lead, adding, "I don't know if I need to be the star of this show.
"I've got a lot going on right now."
Nicole Richie Did Not Get Married This Weekend!
Though her dude, Joel Madden, gave people a good scare.
The Good Charlotte rocker posted an entry—with some doctored wedding pictures—on the band's blog that began, "We Did It! Nicole and I Finally Got Married!!"
They didn't, but you can read the reason why you might have thought so after the jump.
Nicole & Joel Go House Hunting
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden were spied house hunting in Beverly Hills Wednesday.
One option the couple visited, according to a source, was a $1.6 million Beverly Hills house that is described as a Cape Cod mini-estate. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a Jacuzzi tub, pool and a kitchen outfitted with state-of-the-art Viking and Sub-Zero appliances.
“They spent a lot of time looking at the house,” an eyewitness tells E! News. “They were clearly interested. It is a perfect place for them because it is walled in.”
