Update, 3:21 p.m.: My Name Is Earl show runner Greg Garcia just emailed me directly, "Yeah, we're done. Couldn't make it work." Sad face.

All hope is lost for My Name Is Earl. The comedy series, which aired on NBC for four seasons, is now well and truly canceled.

20th Century Fox Studios just released a statement verifying that talks to take the show to TBS for 13 more episodes have fallen apart.

Why didn't it work out? Here's what we know:

NBC ignominiously canceled My Name Is Earl last month, but now there's hope yet for more episodes!

Star Jaime Pressly (who plays Joy, Earl's loopy ex-wife) tells E! News exclusively that another network is negotiating for more episodes of the series. Whoo!

What's the network? What are the realistic chances of more Earl? And when will we know for sure? Here's what we're hearing...

Writers Dig Dexter, Lost, 30 Rock, True Blood

Lost ABC

The blood, sweat and tears begot by a conflicted serial killer, some Madison Avenue suits, a troop of desperate castaways, Texas' grittiest high school football team and the Baltimore drug trade were what really got the television writers' juices flowing this year, even if most audiences have yet to drink the Kool-Aid.

Paying more attention to sharp dialogue and crackerjack pacing than ratings glory, the Writers Guild of America tapped recent Emmy fave Mad Men, the just-concluded and woefully underawarded The Wire, the just as woefully underwatched Friday Night Lights, the killer-as-hero nail-biter Dexter and a resurgent Lost as nominees for Best Dramatic Series for the 2009 WGA Awards, honoring TV, radio, news, promo writing and graphic animation.

As evidenced by the one category, scripted cable series had a big year as far as the scribes were concerned, with HBO, Showtime and burgeoning heavy hitter AMC combining for 17 nominations. ABC and CBS led the networks with 14 apiece (including radio nods), while NBC followed with 10 nominations, four of them coming from Best Comedy Series nominee 30 Rock.

Earl Star Jason Lee Adds Husband Moniker

His name may be Earl, but to Ceren Alkac, it's husband.

Two-time Golden Globe nominee Jason Lee is finally admitting he quietly exchanged vows with the ex-Australian model this past July, one month before their daughter was born on Aug. 10.

The couple was spotted applying for a marriage license in Norwalk, Calif., but never declared a wedding date.

Additionally, the mysterious duo has yet to announce the name of their baby girl. Needless to say, curiosity is high due to Lee's infamously named son, Pilot Inspektor, 5, from a previous engagement to Beth Riesgraf.

Lee took the plunge once before with photographer Carmen Llywelyn from 1995 to 2001.

Oh, Brandon. Didn't your mama teach you not to sound too excited when someone mentions your sister might be sick?

Apparently not, because Jason Priestley said this when asked today about the unconfirmed (and possibly totally untrue!) rumors that his former onscreen sister Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) might have a serious and possibly fatal health issue on the CW's 90210:

Jaime Pressly "Taking a Break" From Couplehood

Hollywood endings are never guaranteed, even in Hollywood.

Jaime Pressly has confirmed that she and her DJ fiancé, Eric Cubiche, have split up.

The duo welcomed son Dezi James on May 11, 2007, about seven months after announcing their engagement. They were friends for more than nine years before they gave dating a try, with Cubiche proposing after about a year and a half of coupledom.

"We are taking a break from our relationship, but we are together everyday with Dezi and still love each other very much," Pressly told Access Hollywood.

"As you know, we have been friends for over 10 years and will remain close friends as we both adore our son and want to make sure he knows we both love him more than life."

Earl Plans a Paris Trip

Earl Hickey is about to meet the (socia)lite of his life.

Paris Hilton will make an appearance as herself when My Name Is Earl returns to NBC with new episodes next month for the first time since the writers' strike shut down production on dozens of scripted series.

According to NBC, the former Simple Life star will show up in a fevered dream Jason Lee's Earl has while unconscious during an hourlong episode titled "I Won't Die with a Little Help from My Friends," slated to air Apr. 3.

"When we wrote the role of Paris Hilton in the script, we weren't exactly sure who to go with for the role," series creator and executive producer Greg Garcia said. "But after an exhausting search, we finally settled on a relatively unknown actress by the name of Paris Hilton.

"I can't wait to see what she does with the role and I can't wait for America to discover her."

Ha, ha.

Hilton probably wouldn't mind being rediscovered, however, especially considering the dismal response to her last onscreen foray, the Razzie-ready The Hottie and the Nottie, which attracted (if that is the correct word) $28,000 worth of business at the box office last month.

The hotel heiress successfully parlayed her persona into five seasons of The Simple Life, but her fictional turns haven't done much for her acting cred.

Her film and TV roles playing someone other than Paris Hilton include the horror remake House of Wax, The O.C., Las Vegas, George Lopez, Veronica Mars and American Dreams. She'll have yet another chance to prove herself in the upcoming feature Repo! The Genetic Opera, a musical sci-fi flick that recently wrapped production.
