No. Definitely not. We're not exactly sure what writer-director Sally Potter was thinking here, but whatever it was, she should never try it again. Joan Allen is a Waspy scientist who's in a disintegrating marriage to the cold Sam Neill. At a party, she falls for a Lebanese chef (French actor Simon Abkarian), and the two start having a torrid affair.
While that premise sounds fairly
Unfaithfully intriguing, here's where it falls apart: They all speak in rhymes. (And not well: "Our love is great. So, let's go mate.") Potter tries to show how love can conquer prejudice against an East-West romance and differences in political and religious backgrounds. That message gets completely lost, however, when Allen and Abkarian, at their most intimate, start going all Dr. Seuss. Not exactly an ideal framework for examining post-9-11 American-Arab relationships. Skip this one? Yes.
