Hot-buttered opinion on the latest flicks

Femme Fatale

F
What Cannes we say about this French-y fiasco? X-Men's Rebecca Romijn-Stamos--who should have X'd this off her to-do list--is a bisexual jewel thief who commits a heist at the famous international film festival. Double-crossing her partners in crime, she grabs the booty and runs--out of the country and into the arms of businessman Peter Coyote. Years later, Coyote is appointed U.S. Ambassador and the two return to France. Though she tries to lay low, paparazzo Antonio Banderas snaps her pic, attracting the attention of her former accomplices. Chases ensue--along with murder, voyeurism and even some hot girl-on-girl action. Director De Palma is up to his typical visual tricks--split screen, slooow motion, long takes, etc., but his showy style can't compensate for ludicrous plot contrivances, wooden acting and laughable dialogue. And the only thing Romijn-Stamos pulls off here is her clothes. Fatale? This one's D.O.A.
