Katharine McPhee wasn't exactly shocked to learn that Paula Abdul was leaving American Idol.

"It doesn't surprise me, because it wouldn't surprise me if Simon Cowell was leaving the show," McPhee told me at last night's benefit concert for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and Feeding America.

"They've all been on the show for so many years…Do what you've got to do," she said. "People try to figure out the real stories and I'm like, 'Who cares? She wants to go.' "

In fact, McPhee thinks it's time for the show to shake things up a bit with someone like Ellen DeGeneres...

Jesse Metcalfe may have made a name for himself by showing off his impressive pecs playing gardener John Rowland on Desperate Housewives, but that doesn't mean he'll be stripping down when he reprises his role in the upcoming season of the hit ABC series.

"I don't think we'll be seeing him shirtless," Eva Longoria Parker informed me yesterday. "You'll be seeing a very different John Rowland."

Perhaps Longoria Parker can get Mr. Metcalfe to take off his shirt for charity...

They've only been living together for a week, but Bridget Marquardt and her director-boyfriend, Nick Carpenter, are already bickering.

"We usually have fun together, but going through all these boxes has been a little bit stressful," the E! reality star, 35, told us at last night's Nylon magazine party at Skybar in West Hollywood. "I told Nick that he has to help me get rid of things, but every time he tells me to throw something away, I get all pissed at him."

Paula Abdul's good friend and former American Idol wannabe Michael Johns says it's time for the reality show's producers to pay up.

He doesn't understand why they didn't give the ousted judge what she wanted to stay on.

"She's not asking for what [Ryan] Seacrest is getting paid," Johns told us last night at In Style editor Ariel Foxman's Summer Soiree party at the London hotel in West Hollywood. "She's asking for $20 million over three years, so I think she totally deserves that money. She's a huge reason people tune in to the show…I think Fox should pull their finger out and pay her what she deserves."

Johns said Abdul confided in him during the negotiations.

Bruce Willis and his model wife, Emma Heming, may be on the hunt for a new place to call home.

I just got word that the newlyweds were spotted on Friday taking a tour of L.A.'s megapricey Carlyle Residences.

In the 24-story building from the owners of New York City's legendary Plaza Hotel, apartments start at $2.9 million, with penthouses going for as much as $15 million, according to real estate website Curbed LA.

A current listing for a 3,535-square-foot apartment with three bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths is listed for a mere $5.1 million. Fendi Casa has designed the common areas. Amenities include a Sports Club/LA gym, library, dining room and even a wine cellar.

No word on whether Mr. & Mrs. Willis made mention of needing a baby nursery in their new pad.

Meanwhile, as I reported yesterday, Willis, 54, and Heming, 31, were in Las Vegas on Saturday night to help his daughter Rumer celebrate her 21st birthday at Tao. I got word that they capped things off on Sunday with a family dinner at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino's Koi restaurant.
