CW XOXOs Gossip Girl, Plans Spinoff

Gossip Girl The CW / Andrew Eccles

R U ready 4 more G.G.?

And we're not just talking about webisodes. Taking a page from the Blair Waldorf handbook, the CW may be cooking up a future Gossip Girl arc that eventually will send at least one main character packing…to an entire new show.

The storyline—and its inevitable viewer-grabbing cliffhanger—would serve as a backdoor pilot for the new series, much like Grey's Anatomy did with Kate Walsh and Private Practice.

The network's entertainment president, Dawn Ostroff, told the Hollywood Reporter that there's "nothing really tangible yet, but we're talking about it. If it's the right idea, we'd all embrace it and be enthusiastic."

Who won't be the queen bee of the new soapfest...

This spinoff concept shouldn't surprise fans of the Gossip Girl books, who witnessed Jenny Humphrey's offshoot series, The It Girl. However, a source tells Variety that Taylor Momsen's character will not be the one guiding viewers to a second hour.

Given that at least five of the characters—Blair (Leighton Meester), Serena (Blake Lively), Dan (Penn Badgley), Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Nate (Chace Crawford)—are scheduled to graduate high school at the end of the season, at least one departure from the hit show should not be shocking.
