Randy Spelling says not only does he enjoy the new 90210, but he thinks his late father, Aaron Spelling, producer of the original, would be a fan as well.

"I've watched the first couple of episodes, and I think it's really entertaining," said Spelling Saturday at his mom Candy Spelling's Woman of the Year Luncheon hosted by Friendly House at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. "It was a trip for me to see kind of the same music and the same characters. And I gotta tell you, it's easy to get sucked back into it. And I really like Rob Estes, and of course Jennie [Garth] and Shannen [Doherty]."

Although Randy believes his dad would "think the show is a little bit risqué, especially considering the nature of the original," Spelling says, "the old one still dealt with issues like drugs and sex and all that. Now that it's almost 2009, you have to move the show in a direction that's more forward. I think if my dad saw the new show he would be happy."

And how about Spelling reprising his role as Ryan Sanders? "Sure, why not? If Steve [Ian Ziering] reappears, I can be his brother again. Or maybe I can be someone else's brother or Shannen's cousin or something," he says.

And while Spelling says he does not know any more than we do about the current status of sister Tori Spelling's possible return to the show, he does say, "I would like to see her reappear. They can have 'Donna Martin's daughter graduates.'" For all the new 90210-ers, this is a reference to one of the most memorable episodes from the original.

Also out to support Ms. Spelling were Married With Children's Katey Sagal and a rapidly recovering DJ AM, sitting alongside former girlfriend Mandy Moore.
