Did Heigl Mean to Knock Down Knocked Up?

Katherine Heigl, Vanity Fair Norman Jean Roy for Vanity Fair

Katherine Heigl stars on one of television’s biggest shows. She’s getting married in a couple weeks. Her new movie, 27 Dresses, is about to be released. And now she’s landed her first Vanity Fair cover.

And lemme tell ya, the Grey’s Anatomy Emmy winner looks stunning in the photos by Norman Jean Roy. They are pure Old Hollywood glamour.

But I have to say, I was shocked by what she had to say about Knocked Up, the Judd Apatow movie credited with helping propel her from a $300,000 movie payday to $6 million.

“It was a little sexist,” Heigl tells writer Leslie Bennetts of the raunchy comedy. “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys...I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”

Yikes.

Despite her candid comments, Heigl’s rep insists, “Katherine’s intention was never to bash a film that opened doors for her. She loves Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen and had a great time making Knocked Up and states that in her quote.”
