Jessica & John Update: Really Over This Time?

Jessica Simpson and John Mayer reportedly may have split, but will the breakup last very long?
A source close to the couple confirms that love is on the rocks for the two but tells me, “They have done this so many times I can’t even keep count anymore.”
Simpson’s rep declined to comment on her personal life. Mayer’s rep hasn’t gotten back to me yet.
As of this morning, the source reports, Simpson and Mayer were talking on the phone and exchanging emails. Simpson is currently in the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival, where she’s promoting her upcoming flick Major Movie Star, a comedy in which she stars as a not so successful actress who decides to enlist in the marines.
Where’s Mayer? As of last night, he was in New York City, according to a post on his blog. Nope, he doesn’t wax on about Ms. Simpson. Instead, in an entry titled “Note to Self," he writes about an idea he has for an invention called the Fajita Staple, which could keep fajitas securely wrapped.
I kid you not!
"Make it strong, perhaps hewn from solid steel,” Mayer writes. “Tangs must be very sharp so as to pierce steak or chicken, or in some cases fish. Can we get it into Rite-Aid by Christmas?”
Sounds like he could use a staple for his relationship with Simpson, too.
