David and Victoria Beckham are fighting back against a new claim that the soccer superstar had a brief affair with a high-class hooker.

In Touch magazine alleges the dirty deed went down three years ago, but…

David says it's rubbish.

"The allegations that have been made are completely untrue and totally ridiculous as the magazine was clearly told before publication," he says in statement to E! News. "Sadly, we live in a world where a magazine can print lies and believe they can get away with it. We are taking legal action against the magazine."

The call girl, who the mag says has left the escort business, claims she and Becks were together five separate times in 2007 at a rate of $10,000 a night.

A source insists that Beckham is serious about going after the magazine, saying, "It's not just a threat."

The magazine said in a statement, "In Touch would like to reaffirm that we stand by our reporting and have confidence in the credibility of the multiple sources we quote in the story."

We're happy David and Victoria are still together, unlike the couples in our Big Celebrity Splits photo gallery.
