Jenny McCarthy on Jim Carrey: How I Got Him to Lose the Weight

Actor's gal-pal tells us it took an intervention to get her funnyman beau back to the clean-cut, in-shape look he used to sport

Jenny McCarthy is no chubby chaser.

Last April, McCarthy told Ellen DeGeneres that her funnyman boyfriend, Jim Carrey, would pack on at least 50 pounds to play Curly in a flick about the Three Stooges.

Not only did he gain some major poundage, but there were times he was almost unrecognizable because he also grew a full-on beard. However, when the movie was put on hold, McCarthy had to step in to get her old Jim back...

"I did some intervention," McCarthy told us at Chelsea Handler's L.A. book party for her new tome, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. "He said, 'I think I'm done with the beard,' and I go, 'As a matter of fact you are. I was just thinking that.' So he shaved it. Then I got him into yoga, so he's like a slender rubber band right now."

Carrey's new look comes just at the right time. Even though he became a first-time grandfather last month to Jackson Riley Santana, the actor doesn't feel any older.

"I do tease him," McCarthy said. "When the baby was born, I said, 'How does it feel? How does it feel? You're a grandpa.' And he said, 'But I don't look like a grandpa.' I was like, 'Yeah, you do. This is what 50-year-old men look like.' "

All jokes aside, McCarthy is proud to take on the role of co-grandparent at only 37 years old, even though she and Carrey aren't married. "I think I'm going to rock at it and love the kid to pieces," she beamed. "It doesn't bother me when people call me 'Grandma.' I love nothing more in the world."

McCarthy, obviously, is in it for the long haul. "I love Jim in any form," she gushed. "He could have no arms and no legs and I'll love the stump of him."
