"One of his favorite things is to hear the piano," Otunga tells me. "Jennifer will play the piano or sing to him, and he will calm down immediately. We had a guy over once tuning the piano and he was pecking the keys, and David started trying to sing and imitate the notes. It was the most unbelievable thing."
Also kinda unbelievable is Otunga's burgeoning wrestling career…
Otunga is one of eight rookie professional wrestlers on the World Wrestling Entertainment's new reality show, NXT, premiering tonight on the Syfy network. A Harvard Law School graduate who also appeared on VH1's I Love New York 2 under the nickname "Punk," Otunga walked away from a law career about two years ago to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a muscled-up spandex-clad fighter.
As much as Otunga boasts that David Jr. "has a musical ear" like his mom, he also sees the wrestler in him. "He's unbelievably strong," he says. "He just started crawling. Literally over a span of just a week he started inching along, and now he's a full-fledged crawler."
As for Hudson and Otunga's engagement, he says the wedding date is set. But, no surprise, he says, "I can't divulge the date or anything, but we definitely have the plans."
Hudson first revealed last March that they had picked a date. "It's a secret," she told Ryan Seacrest during an appearance on American Idol. "I can't tell anybody."
Perhaps the WWE will convince them to get married in a wrestling ring? "We could do that," Otunga says, laughing. "I don't know if Jennifer would go for it, but I'd be up for it."
