Who used an underground entrance to access the movie's afterparty, and who almost got denied? Get the deets!

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner may be the big stars of New Moon, but it was a couple of hairy beasts who almost stole the spotlight at last night's premiere party at L.A.'s Hammer Museum.

Outside of the Volturi-inspired bash, under a tent designed to look like a forest, were two—ready for this?—real-life timberwolves. They were kept at a safe distance from guests behind a fence.

Now, let's get back to Rob and Kristen...

After the film received a standing ovation, Pattinson and Stewart headed to the party, but they didn't enter through the front door. With fandemonium still going on in the streets, the two were said to have snuck in via an underground entrance.

Once inside, Pattinson was the center of attention, natch.

"Everyone surrounded Rob the entire night," one party guest reports. "He was literally swarmed by fans, but he handled himself extremely well."

Like he did this time last year at the Twilight party, Pattinson pretty much stayed at his table. He was all smiles as he signed autographs and took pics with who knows how many of the 2,200 people at the invite-only bash.

While Stewart looked pretty amazing on the red carpet in an Oscar de la Renta gown, she wasn't having it at the party and changed into more casual comfy clothes. Don't know about you, but we love her for that.

Unfortunately, Kellan Lutz had some probs getting into the bash because security apparently didn't recognize him. Luckily, Lutz didn't have to get all Emmett on them—he was allowed in after fans began chanting, "Let him in!"

In an ironic twist, Lutz plucked two fans from the crowd earlier in the evening and gave them tickets to the premiere.
