Governor Arnold on Prop 8: The Voters Will Be Back
Tue., May. 26, 2009 9:31 PM PDT by Natalie Finn
Arnold Schwarzenegger believes that Proposition 8 will eventually be terminated by California voters.
The Golden State governor, who opposed last year's ballot initiative that made gay marriage illegal—a result upheld today by California's Supreme Court—told Jay Leno on the Tonight Show Tuesday that the fight certainly isn't over.
"I think they're going to be back," Schwarzenegger, who had his own hat handed to him by the state's voters last week over budget issues, said.
"In another year or two they will be back again with another initiative trying to get [gay marriage relegalized]. And you know, eventually it's going to be overturned, I'm sure of that."
The opposition was out in full force tonight, anyway. Thousands of dissenters, including celebs such as Emmy Rossum, Pete Wentz and Kathy Griffin, marched in West Hollywood to support the right for same-sex couples to marry.
Schwarzenegger's appearance on the Tonight Show, where he first confirmed his candidacy for governor many economic moons ago, was part of Leno's weeklong send-off leading up to his final show Friday.
