Sometimes movies can make millions of dollars. Other times, they can save lives. Peter Jackson knows a little bit about each of these as director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and producer of West of Memphis, a documentary about the lives of three wrongly convicted (and now freed) Arkansas youths, The West Memphis Three.

He talked to E! News at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah this week about his two latest passion projects, West of Memphis and The Hobbit.

Do Right Woman, Do Right Man: Aretha Franklin Engaged to Longtime Confidant

Aretha Franklin James Devaney/Wireimage

Apparently William "Willie" Wilkerson makes Aretha Franklin feel like a natural woman.

And there's clearly quite a bit of mutual "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" there, too, because the Queen of Soul is set to make "forever friend" Willie her King: The couple will tie the knot this summer, E! News has confirmed.

The star hastened to clarify the reason for this non-rush to the altar:

"No I'm not pregnant, LOL!" Franklin said.

Lip-Sync Oops! Scotty McCreery Gets Late Start at Macy's Parade

American Idol contestants will probably only be truly thankful when Thanksgiving is finally over.

First, this year's runner-up Lauren Alaina entered a lyrical black hole during "The Star-Spangled Banner" before today's Packers-Lions game. And now current Idol champ Scotty McCreery, appearing at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, seems to have forgotten the basics of lip-syncing, to wit: When pretending to sing, pretend to sing.

So when did the trouble start?

Journey Ax-Man Neal Schon Shreds Happy Birthday to Michaele Salahi

This probably isn't going to do a lot for Tareq Salahi's mood, which was already pretty bad to begin with.

Former Real Housewives of D.C. star Michaele Salahi and her fairy tale rocker beau Neal Schon of Journey took things to another level this weekend in Denver. Doing what even a regular old rich guy can't (sorry Tareq), Neal rocked his ladylove a flaming slab of "Happy Birthday" onstage for the whole world to see.

If you're not a fan of extemporaneous guitar solos, the "Happy Birthday" section starts at around 1:10 and ends shortly thereafter with a kiss.

How romantic! Unless you happen to be Tareq.

Mark Wahlberg Ready for Crime Time in the Contraband Trailer

Just when reformed hoodlum Chris (Mark Wahlberg) thought he was out of the game, he finds himself pulled back in by his family. Wouldn't you just know? Seems Mr. Now Legit has to save his weasely brother-in-law who got in over his head. So Chris rejoins his old crew for, wait for it, one last job.

As you might expect, stuff explodes, guns are pulled and beatdowns threatened as testosterone pools up on the big screen. But what you might not expect is that it looks like Giovanni Ribisi makes a good bad guy. Go figure!

Spoiler alert: This is one of those trailers that seems to lay out the whole story and every conflict in the movie, so don't watch unless you're sure you can get amnesia by the time it hits theaters January 13, 2012.

Best Actor or Bad Actor? Tracy Morgan Is Both

Tracy Morgan, 30 Rock Nicole Rivelli/NBC

According to the old expression, Sometimes, you can't win for losin'. Well, for Tracy Morgan, sometimes is right now. That's because while being embroiled in controversy for making violently homophobic remarks (and later apologizing), Morgan won the Best Comedy Actor Award at the Monte Carlo TV Festival Friday. How you say in French? Bad timing.
