It used to be that models would rather go naked than wear fur. But this season, everything from chinchilla to fox is making a comeback as the ultimate star accessory at party after party. Sharon Stone used fur to keep warm on Rome's red carpet, Star Jones Reynolds combated New York chill with a stole, and E!'s own Snoop Dogg made a stylish entrance to a German bash with a full-length mink coat.
"We’re wired to love fur," explains Fabulous Furs president Donna Salyers. Eighteen years ago, Donna was on her way to buy herself a mink coat like Snoop's. On the radio, however, she heard Paul Harvey describe a toy manufacturer that skinned kittens and passed off their fur as mink teddy bears. "With four cats at home, it occurred to me I might unknowingly be about to buy a 'kitty coat,' " Donna recalls.
So, instead of heading to the store, she used her fabric connections to create her own faux-fur company, which has since grown immensely popular with stars including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Patti LaBelle and Ice-T and his wife, Coco, to name a few.
Now, some celebs like Sharon rock the real thing. But with so many faux options, why not save an animal when you cover up on your way to your next holiday soiree?
