Britney Spears Nabs MTV Nom for "Piece of Me"

Will Britney Spears make a return to MTV's Video Music Awards in September?

The music network has just announced that the well-on-her-way-to-a-comeback pop princess is a nominee for Best Female Video for "Piece of Me." (See the other nominees below the jump.)

The show—hosted by British comedian Russell Brand—airs live from Hollywood on Sept. 7.

Lest you forget—but how could you, really?—Spears' performance of "Gimme More" at last year's kudosfest was a jaw-dropping disaster. The big question now is, will Brit try to redeem herself by performing this time around?

What do you think she should do: perform or stay home? Leave your comments below.

So who else is nominated? Here's the rundown:

Best Female Video

Best Male Video

  • Lil Wayne, "Lollipop"
  • Usher, "Love in This Club"
  • Chris Brown, "With You"
  • Flo Rida, "Low"
  • T.I., "No Matter What"

This year marks the first time that fans will select nominees—and the eventual winners—via online voting.

"Now that MTV has given me a VMA nomination, I think my parents should unblock the channel!" first-time nominee Katy Perry joked with me this afternoon. "Thanks MTV!"

Nominations in other categories will be released throughout the summer, as will musical acts, though the Jonas Brothers were announced as performers last week.
