Is Gossip Girl Paving the Way for TV Threesomes?

Gossip Girl Cast The CW
More from The Awful Truth

What's a desperate show to do when it's getting less-than-stellar ratings? Add tons of attention-grabbing crap into the mix to make you watch, of course!

Gossip Girl is only in its third season, but it's slowly but surely jumping the proverbial shark. First, by tapping Lady Gaga to appear on the CW drama as herself ('cause celeb cameos always blend in so well with the storyline), and now announcing there's gonna be a threesome on the show involving three main castmembers.

Hey, we're not ones to look a gift threesome in the mouth—we just won't approve till we know which three characters it's gonna be. Chace Crawford would bland up any sex scene, and Taylor Momsen is still too underage to think about in sexual scenarios. But Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick and guest star Hilary Duff doin' the nasty? No complaints here!

In fact, we can think of another ménage à trois we'd love to see on our TV sets...

Here she is! Hilary Duff joins the cast of Gossip Girl as movie star Olivia Burke for the Oct. 5 episode titled "Dan de Fleurette," and we have the exclusive first look at Duff in character on the set!

Duff's character is assigned to be Vanessa's (Jessica Szohr) roommate at NYU—their dorm room is the setting of the still above—and through Vanessa, Olivia gets to know Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley). Olivia becomes attracted to Dan, and vica versa. Of course, there's a twist: Dan is so tuned out to pop culture that he doesn't realize the girl he's falling for is a huge movie star famous for her role in a Twilight-esque series of vampire movies.

Still, the two college kids manage to make their odd-couple pairing work, and cuteness ensues. Yay!

What do you think? Does Duff look like a good addition to the Gossip Girl cast? Do you think she'll be a good match for Dan?

More from H'Wood Party Girl

Hilary Duff is often seen cheering on her hockey boyfriend, Mike Comrie, from the sidelines, so when she hosted a party for Hervé Léger last night, he returned the favor.

As Hil worked the carpet at Live! on Sunset, Mike waited patiently in the wings for his girl. The twosome gets to spend the entire summer together.

"He plays hockey in Ottawa, so he's in town for the summer...so he's gotta show up for all my stuff now since I'm constantly going to visit him," Hil tells E! News. "He's a good sport about all of it, and he's great. I'm happy to have him back!"

It certainly looked that way last night as the lovebirds sipped champagne and white wine together inside the bash. So how do they make it work when they can't be in the same city?

Hilary Duff certainly has good taste in TV. First she lands a guest spot on Ghost Whisperer, and now an NBC representative confirms to E! News exclusively that the former Lizzie McGuire star will appear in an upcoming episode of Law & Order: SVU.

Rise 'n' Shine: Paul Rudd & Jason Segel Get Gastronomical

•  I Love You, Man costars Paul Rudd and Jason Segel behave like 9-year-old boys. You there, laughing with them, are doing the same. (Don't worry, we are, too.)

•  Jennifer Aniston is narrating a children's book with her father, but wants to make sure you know that it has nothing to do with any possible baby lust she may or may not have.

•  The Wrestlemania fisticuffs between Mickey Rourke and Chris Jericho may happen after all…at least if the real-life wrestler's fightin' words are any indication.

•  Audrina Patridge may be a Sorority Row killer, but the trailer for her new flick looks totally fun. Too bad the same can't really be said for Hilary Duff's Greta.

•  Joe Jonas pulls a Miley Cyrus. Oy.

•  Dear Ava Phillippe: Naming your pet pig Booker T. Washington and keeping mommy Reese Witherspoon away from pork makes you a pretty darn smart 9-year-old (unlike those stinky boys at the top of this column). Love, Rise 'n' Shine

Hilary Duff Keeps Faye Dunaway Feud Going

Making fun of Faye Dunaway's looks wasn't enough for Hilary Duff—she's still peeved at the aging actress.

Quick feud recap (because there are too many to keep track of anymore): Hilary is starring in a Bonnie and Clyde remake. This caused Dunaway to allegedly cackle, ''Couldn't they at least cast a real actress?" which got the Duffster in such a huff, she lashed out to E!'s Daily 10, "I might be mad if I looked like that now, too."

Seems pretty straightforward and done with, but Hilary's still got more to say about the matter on today's Bonnie Hunt Show.

See, Duff says Dunaway can't judge her, because the Lizzie McGuire star is still growing. "She started acting way later than I did, so I think I have time to grow—and grow with each project. I am learning and work hard at my craft," Hilary explains to Bonnie.

Feud Fest: Etta James Has No Love for Beyoncé

Valentine's Day is nearly a week away—where is the love in Hollywood?

First, Hilary Duff snaps nasty about Faye Dunaway. Then Stephen King admits he doesn't think much of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's writing chops.

Now R&B icon Etta James has some choice words to say about Beyoncé Knowles and her "At Last" performance at President Barack Obama's Inaugural Ball.

"I can't stand Beyoncé," she told a Seattle crowd.

"You know your president, the one with the big ears? He ain't my president—had that woman singing for him at his inauguration. She's going to get her ass whooped...she had no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day, gonna be singing my song that I've been singing forever."

Yvette Noel-Schure, Mrs. Jay-Z's rep, said the singer had "no comment" on James' rant. For the record, Beyoncé played James in the recent film Cadillac Records.  The "Single Ladies" star has previously said that the soulful songstress had nice things to say about her portrayal. Is she sure about that?

Rise 'n' Shine: Jude Law Makes a Lovely Lady

Jude Law, Rage Sally Potter, Adventure Pictures Ltd.

•  Jude Law is a total babe.

•  Hilary Duff and Faye Dunaway could stand to learn a thing or two about peacemaking from Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke. (No word on if the Milk star got the groping treatment, though.)

•  Poor A-Rod. It really must be embarrassing having your gal-pal Madonna cavorting around your Yankee territory with even younger boy-toy Jesus Luz.

•  Vivica A. Fox and the Psychic Friends Network are not friends.

•  Contain your shock. Jessica Simpson and Audrina Patridge are headed straight to video.

•  Kingston Rossdale shares his mom, Gwen Stefani, with a friend.

•  Erykah Badu's baby is from named Mars.

•  Dear Despair, Inc.: These Christian Bale T-shirts are awesome! Must get one. Love, Rise 'n' Shine

Hilary Duff Disses Faye Dunaway

The Battle of the Bonnie lasses is getting ugly.

Hilary Duff clearly had enough of Faye Dunaway's supposed criticism about whether she has the chops to take on one of the Oscar winner's most iconic roles, the gun-toting Bonnie Parker, in a new flick titled The Story of Bonnie and Clyde.

During a break from filming a guest spot on the set of Ghost Whisperer, Duff told E!'s Daily 10, "I think that my fans that are going to go see the movie don't even know who she is," regarding the Hollywood legend (repeat, Hollywood legend), adding, "I think it was a little unnecessary, but I might be mad if I looked like that now, too."

Duff's diss stems from Dunaway's alleged remark, upon hearing the news that the former Lizzie McGuire starlet would be playing her old part, "Couldn't they at least cast a real actress?"

Here's hoping this little war of words ends more peacefully than Bonnie herself did.

Ghost Whisperer Reaches Out to Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff, Jennifer Love Hewitt Gregg DeGuire/Getty Image; Sonja Flemming/CBS

While Hilary Duff passes the time until her new NBC comedy, Barely Legal, kicks off, she clearly must have figured she'd spend some QT with her friends.

More specifically, she plotted a little face time with her buddy Jennifer Love Hewitt, whom she'll join on the set of Ghost Whisperer. That's right, the erstwhile Lizzie Maguire will be making a special appearance on the CBS drama, the network confirms to E! News.

Her character is described as mysterious, so maybe she'll be responsible for killing someone before she becomes the youngest lawyer ever in the state of California on her own show.

Either way, with movies like War, Inc., a muffed attempt at a new single with "Reach Out" last fall and a little dirty dancing (or not), returning to the land that made her famous in the first place—television—may help Duff rediscover the right stuff.

Taylor a Swift Choice for CSI

Just in case this whole Laurence Fishburne thing doesn't work out, CSI has come up with a Swift way to boost ratings.

Country-pop It girl Taylor Swift will guest star on an upcoming episode of CBS' mega-hit crime show, which bids farewell to longtime star and fan favorite William Petersen on Thursday.

Per the network, the Fearless singer will play the teenage daughter of the managers of a seedy Las Vegas motel, who is going through personal changes that ultimately have tragic consequences—a plot Taylor-made for a country song.

No airdate for Swift's episode has been announced, but in the meantime, here's more news from the world of name-brand casting:
