Gerard Butler Goes to War With Ralph Fiennes
Call it a buddy tragedy.
Fresh off comedy with The Ugly Truth and the upcoming The Bounty with Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler has agreed to star in Ralph Fiennes' adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy Coriolanus, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As you may remember from the SparkNotes, the play follows the exploits of a prideful Roman war hero (Fiennes) who turns against his own people with the aid of his former foe, to be played by Butler.
Bloodshed and iambic pentameter ensue. (Spoiler alert: Shakespeare's tragedies generally don't end well for the leads.)
According to the trade, Fiennes' first foray into film directing will update the 1608 play with a contemporary setting, though presumably with the original language more or less intact.
Because if you mess with Shakespeare's poetry, that would be a real tragedy.

Gerard Butler Not Dating Jen Aniston, Hates Dieting
Gerard Butler is just like us...he loves his carbs and hates dieting.
At the premiere of Law Abiding Citizen, his new movie featuring many shirtless scenes, the hot Scot told us what he gives up to get his body camera-ready.
"I wanna eat my potatoes and French fries and sponge cakes," he moaned to E! News. "When I play a role like this, I can't have my carbs and it makes me crazy."
We hear you, girlfriend!
You know who else is a healthy eater? His Bounty costar Jennifer Aniston, who he insists is just a BFF.
"I love her to death," he told E! News. "She's the coolest and she's become a great friend, but there's nothing going on. And if there was, I'd be happy to say it!"
Jen wasn't the only famous female he talked about last night...
Jen Aniston Dines in L.A., Gerard Parties in NYC
Although costars Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler hung in L.A. last week after they finished filming The Bounty in NYC, they're doing their own things in separate cities now.
Last night, Jen hit Sunset Tower Hotel for dinner with her girlfriends, but their ladies-only outing didn't last long.
"She went over to three gentlemen at the bar and asked them to join her table for dinner," an eyewitness tells E! News. The men gladly obliged, natch.
The group of six dined on fish and had four rounds of drinks brought to the table throughout the night.
But one guy in particular seemed to get Jen's attention...
Jen Aniston & Gerard Butler Hold Hands in Public
Well, well, well. What do we have here?
This just happens to be costars Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston holding hands on set of The Bounty.
But interestingly enough, they were supposedly on a break from filming when the photo was taken.
And all this after People's report of public hand-holding between the two on Saturday!
According to People, they first had dinner at Freemans in New York City. Then another source saw them holding hands over cocktails at the Jane Hotel.
No doubt there is a perfectly good explanation...

Bill Clinton Wants Katherine Heigl's Ugly Truth?
How does a former president of the United States of America relax after helping to free two jailed American journalists in North Korea?
How about with a movie?
A source says that Bill Clinton's office got in touch with bigwigs at Sony late last week to request a screener of The Ugly Truth, the Robert Luketic-directed romantic comedy starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.
"They called on Friday," the source reports. "And it's already been delivered."
A rep for Clinton did not immediately comment.
Partly Sunny With a Chance of Gerard Butler
Talk about your hot forecasts.
During a promotional appearance Monday on the London morning show GMTV, Gerard Butler took a break from plugging The Ugly Truth—along with having to address the never-ending rumors of him and Jennifer Aniston doing the deed—to test out his skills as a meteorologist...
Katherine Heigl: The Truth About Her Underwear
If The Ugly Truth hits it big at the box office this weekend, be prepared for a nationwide shortage of vibrating panties.
In the romantic comedy, Katherine Heigl plays Abby, a buttoned-up television producer who spars with a chauvinistic TV commentator played by Gerard Butler. In one scene, Abby accidentally finds herself being sexually satisfied by a pair of remote-control lacy underwear...during a business dinner in a restaurant!
While Heigl's work may not be up there with Meg Ryan's iconic pseudoclimax in When Harry Met Sally, she bravely shows no restraint in her moaning, groaning and body-trembling performance.
With that in mind, we thought we'd hit up some sexperts to get the inside scoop on the adult-only knickers, plus we find out which real-life celebs already own a pair or two…
Katherine Heigl's Latest Bomb Scare Totally Not Movie-Related
You can only diss, lick and romantically snub so many coworkers before the movie gods—or, as the case may be, terror-inciting Angelenos—seek their vengeance.
Such retribution came for Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler on Saturday, when the duo was forced to evacuate Beverly Hills' Four Seasons Hotel for two hours in the midst of their all-day promotional blitz for The Ugly Truth.
Not ones to put possible domestic terrorism above a good junket, once the hotel was emptied of its roughly 400 guests—which included the current bane of David Beckham's existence, the AC Milan soccer team—Butler, our former coworker and the assembled press continued their movie-pimping ways at the nearby Il Cielo restaurant.
"It was just a bomb threat," Los Angeles Police Officer Herrera told E! News. "It was a phone call."
In that case, someone may want to put a trace on the lines at the Grey's Anatomy writing room, stat.
Is Gerard Butler Marrying Jennifer Aniston?
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Gerard Butler has learned that once the rumors start, sometimes it's best to just play along.
Such is the case with the sexy Scot, who can't seem to even breathe the same air as Jennifer Aniston without somebody insisting they're a couple. Of course, the latest round of speculation stems from the fact that the two are currently making a movie together.
"Yeah, we're very much in love," the Ugly Truth star told Conan O'Brien on Thursday's Tonight Show. "Especially her. And I'm going to make an announcement."
Jennifer Aniston: Week in Jersey With Gerard Butler
Jennifer Aniston is definitely not a Real Housewife of New of Jersey, but that doesn't mean she can't enjoy the Garden State.
Ms. Aniston just spent a week a week in Atlantic City with Gerard Butler.
No, it was not a romantic getaway for two of Hollywood's most eligible singles…
Rise 'n' Shine: Is Megan Fox the Next Buffy?
• As appalling as a Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie without Joss Whedon sounds, how do you feel about the latest rumor that Sarah Michelle Gellar could be passing her sharpened stakes to Megan Fox? Yeah, coffee on the computer screen. You might want to clean that up.
• Might an I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! showmance be in the works? Word is there might be little Holly Montag-Sanjaya smoochies ahead.
• After reading the above two notes, settle your stomach with David Archuleta's cover of Vanessa Carlton's "1,000 Miles." It's really good.
• People all over the Internet are calling this Freida Pinto quote a confirmation of her romance with Dev Patel. While we don't deny their coupledom, this is not a declaration of love.
• Gerard Butler thinks he's funny.

Gerard Butler Charged in Paparazzi RocknRoll
Turns out Gerard Butler may have had to do more research than we thought for his role in the upcoming Law Abiding Citizen.
The Scottish actor was charged Wednesday with battery for allegedly beating up a paparazzo last year following a premiere party for the Guy Ritchie-directed caper flick RocknRolla.
Butler isn't required to attend his June 10 arraignment because the charge is a misdemeanor, Los Angeles City Attorney's Office spokesman Frank Mateljan tells E! News. "If he is convicted, he could face up to six months in jail and/or pay a $2,000 fine," Mateljan said.
The smackdown reportedly occurred outside of L.A. hot spot Crown Bar Oct. 7 at around 2 a.m., as Butler was leaving the RocknRolla party and was about to hop into his limo.
A rep for the 300 star has not yet responded to a request for comment.
