Ashlee and Pete's "Flash" of Greatness?

Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz Jamie McCarthy/WireImage.com

Having trouble understanding what Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz see in each other? This won’t help.

The betrothed couple blabbered about their beginnings on L.A. radio station STAR 98.7 FM this morning, with Wentz complaining that Ashlee kept him “in the friend zone” for a full year.

Ashlee so completely didn’t notice Pete that, after they had already met, he had to email her a photo of him to jog her memory. (Guess she wasn’t a Fall Out Boy fan back then.)

But things apparently took off quickly after that: “The first time we hung out she flashed me,” Pete says.

“I lifted my dress over my head for him,” Ashlee says. “So it was love at first sight.”

And we bet he’s been wearing her panties ever since.

Kate 'n' Owen: No Engagement Here

More from Marc Malkin

The British tabs are barking: Owen Wilson has popped the question to Kate Hudson and sealed the deal with a mongo diamond ring.

But reps for both stars insist otherwise.

"Not true!" Wilson's publicist tells me. Adds Hudson's rep, "She is definitely not engaged."

As for Ms. Most Beautiful's mystery bling, the true story is revealed in my videoblog above.

Scarlett & Ryan Engaged!

Ryan Reynolds has more than Scarlett fever—he has a Scarlett fiancée.

Reps for both Scarlett Johansson and Reynolds confirm to E! News that the blond bombshell and her actor beau are engaged.

No further details, including when the question was popped, the size of her rock or whether they've set a wedding date, have been announced.

However, a source close to Johansson tells E! News that the couple have actually been betrothed "for a little while," and they have kept the engagement on the down-low because "they want to keep things private."

Mariah Sporting Major Rock (and It's New)

Mariah Carey AP Photo/Peter Kramer, Brian Ach/WireImage.com

We might not know if Mariah Carey is a missus at the moment, but she is definitely flashing some major new hardware on her ring finger courtesy of Nick Cannon.

A rep for the jeweler Jacob & Co. tells E! News that Cannon forked over $2.5 million for the 17-carat sparkler currently adorning Carey's paw.

“It has a square, emerald-cut fancy light-pink diamond as the center stone that is 10 carats,” the jewelrymaker says. "It is surrounded by 58 pink diamonds, with two half-moon diamonds on each side."

The ring was specially designed for Carat, er, Carey by company namesake Jacob Arabo and is not the same ring that Cannon used when he proposed to Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks, the source says.

“Both rings were by Jacob & Co., but this ring for Mariah was custom made by Jacob...I can say definitively that this is a completely different ring. They look a little similar, but this [Mariah’s ring] is a one-of-a-kind piece that Cannon worked with Jacob to create."

The source says that Cannon "was in the boutique in the last couple of weeks" to retrieve the bauble.

Now all we have to do is figure out whether Cannon—or the rock-studded ring—is Carey's new best friend.

Mariah Wedding Rumor Steals Spotlight

Mimi sure knows how to make headlines—and not just of the musical variety.

After several days of speculation that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may have become engaged, it now seems the two may have gotten married.

Call us cynical (or awed by her marketing savvy), but the potential nuptial news just happens to hit the same week that pop chart rival, Madonna, has a new album in stores. Talk about perfect timing.

Word of the wedding comes from Latina.com, where an unnamed source confirms the couple swapped vows on Wednesday in a "very impulsive" small ceremony reportedly attended by just a few close friends, including Da Brat.

A subsequent report from the New York Post pinpoints the location as the home Carey just bought in Eleuthera, the Bahamas. (Her casa is his casa, however, as a Post source claims there was no prenup. "There wasn't time.")

If so—and we're keeping the champagne corked until we get an official confirmation—it would be the second marriage for Mimi (who was previously wed to Tommy Mottola) and the first for Nick (who was engaged to Selita Ebanks last year).

And one of the cleverest spotlight-stealing campaigns since Madonna recently bragged to the world that she pulled Justin Timberlake's pants down to deliver a B-12 shot.

Mariah Carey: A Sloppy-Seconds Engagement?

Mariah Carey Brian Ach/WireImage.com

Is this any way to treat a diva?

Speculation is mounting that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are preparing to tie the knot—with Access Hollywood going so far as to say a source close to the "Touch My Body" songbird has confirmed it.

But before you wish 'em the best, just know that Nick's rep gave us a "No comment" response when asked about the potentially happy news.

Maybe someone will comment over gossip that the huge diamond ring Mimi is sporting is actually—ready for this?—the same rock Nick gave to his former fiancée, Victoria's Secret model Selita Ebanks.

Selita did give Nick back her engagement ring, the model's rep confirms to E! News but doesn't say whether or not that is indeed the ring Mariah is wearing.

Gee, nothing says romance like a symbol of your future with the scent of your man's last failed relationship all over it.

J.Love: Not Sweating Marriage

Jennifer Love Hewitt Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com

Jennifer Love Hewitt is not going to perspire on her wedding day.

“It won't be a summer wedding. I won't be a sweaty bride," says the Ghost Whisperer star, who is engaged to actor Ross McCall.

Is J.Love veering into bridezilla territory or just more aware of the marriage-ending potential of moist underarms? Who can say?

But the groom-to-be is probably already sweating bullets.

Is Mariah Engaged?

Mariah Carey Brian Ach/WireImage.com

Mariah Carey was spotted wearing a diamond the size of our fist on her ring finger at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend and holding hands with Nick Cannon at an after-party at Tenjune.

So is she engaged? Her reps won’t say, but that won’t stop us from speculating about what a Mariah wedding would look like:

The ceremony will take place on a rainbow. The bride will wear white and the groom will be dressed as Hello Kitty. Guests will learn their seating assignments by selecting Angel cards, trained butterflies will pass out hors d’oeuvres and everyone will get to take home a mermaid.

If you see carrier doves flying like mad all over L.A. and New York, know that invitations have gone out.

Carmen on Marriage No. 3: "There's No Rush!"

Carmen Electra, Rob Patterson INFDaily.com

Third time's the charm? Not so fast, says newly engaged Carmen Electra.

The former Baywatch babe tells E! News exclusively that she and fiancé, Korn guitarist Rob Patterson, are in no rush to head to the altar.

"We are happy. We're going to take things slow," Electra said during a break in the action at the Coachella music fest. "Everyone thinks we are getting married tomorrow, but we really want to take our time and wait. There's no rush! We are happy with the way things are."

Patterson, 37, popped the question last weekend while celebrating the bride-to-be's 36th.

"I was very surprised," she said. "It was actually my birthday."

Any details of the upcoming nuptials?

"We like to keep some things to ourselves," her betrothed chimed in.

Electra was previously hitched to Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman.

Well, they certainly look happy.

Twice-divorced Carmen Electra cozies up to her new fiancé, Korn guitarist Rob Patterson, with her engagement bling clearly in view at a Dos Equis party in Austin.

Here's hoping the third time's a charm for the former Baywatch beauty. And may we recommend skipping a reality series to chronicle the romance.

Pete Wentz: Rockin' Out

Pete Wentz Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com

Pete Wentz definitely gives rock star a whole new meaning.

At the NME Awards USA in L.A. Wednesday night, the Fall Out Boy frontman sported a T-shirt with the words "Coltan Is a Conflict Diamond" as a way of expressing his opposition toward the selling of diamonds for the purpose of financing illegal military groups.

And Pete clearly practices what he preaches, telling People magazine at the event that the engagement ring he presented to Ashlee Simpson "is not a conflict diamond."

We can only assume it wasn't a cubic zirconia either.

Electra Racks Up Another Engagement

The whole "till death do us part" thing didn't quite work out for Carmen Electra the first time around. Or the second time. Maybe the third time's a charm.

The former Baywatch star is set to head down the aisle yet again, this time with her eyeliner-loving boyfriend of less than a year, Korn guitarist Rob Patterson.

"Yes, she is engaged," her rep confirmed to E! News.

According to People, the 37-year-old shredder popped the question during a weekend trip to Las Vegas, where the couple were celebrating Electra's 36th birthday. While pictures have yet to surface, the all-important betrothal bling is reportedly a black diamond set with white diamonds.

Electra was previously married to Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and NBA bad boy Dennis Rodman.
