Barrymore & Long: Brunch Ado About Nothing?

Loading...

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long are so totally square.

The maybe-couple had brunch together yesterday at Square One in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. "They were by themselves for a while and both sitting on the same side of the table and then two women joined them," a fellow diner says.

Speaking of Mr. Long...

Drew Barrymore: Nothing Hotter Than a Girl Fight

Whip It, Kristen Wiig, Drew Barrymore, Zoe Bell, Eve, Ellen Page, Andrew Wilson, Krissy Krash Darren Michaels/Fox Searchlight

Forget the injuries on Dancing With the Stars. Try going one-on-one with a roller derby girl.

That's exactly what Drew Barrymore did for Whip It, her directorial debut about a high schooler (Ellen Page) who secretly joins a roller derby team.

Barrymore, who also plays Smashley Simpson in the movie, trained with real-life Detroit Derby Girls star Racer McChasHer.

"We were wrestling and rolling around on the track, and both of us feel one of our skates and both our body weights on my thigh," Barrymore said last night while promoting the flick at the Tough Cookies vs. Varsity Brawlers match in L.A. "I had a bruise that was a foot long and a foot wide. My entire leg was covered."

But she isn't complaining…

Live From the Emmys: Tweet, Tweet, Tweet!

Jon Hamm, Hugh Laurie Courtesy AP/ Casey Rodgers

Hello from downtown Los Angeles!

I'm down at the Nokia Theatre right now on the Emmy red carpet. I'll be here tweeting away until about 5 p.m. PST and I'll continue inside during the show. And it doesn't stop there. After the awards are handed out, I'm headed to the always fun and glam-filled HBO party!

So follow me now on Twitter at @marcmalkin.

Who are you excited to see and hear from? Justin Timberlake (yup, he's presenting!), hot-stuff Jon Hamm, House star Hugh Laurie or funny guy and host Neil Patrick Harris? How about Ms. Hilarious herself, Tina Fey; the always stunningly beautiful Mariska Hargitay; or I-can't-wait-to-see-what-she-is-wearing Drew Barrymore?

And of course there's that dance between Karina and Maks! As far I've been told, rehearsals have been nothing but hot. Perhaps they'll be back together by the end of the evening.

Happy Emmys, everybody!

Jennifer Aniston: Will Sing in Upcoming Flick!

Jennifer Aniston Ramey Photo

Jennifer Aniston is getting ready to show off her vocal chops.

I can exclusively reveal that the actress, 40, will do her own singing in The Goree Girls, her upcoming real-life drama about a group of female prisoners who form a popular radio country-and-western band in the 1940s.

"She can sing," the movie's director, Michael Sucsy, tells me. "And she's going to learn how to play the Dobro [guitar]."

Aniston's fellow inmates haven't been cast yet. Sucsy isn't looking to fill the roles with real-life musicians…

Jessica and Drew: Let's Hope for a Tie on Emmy Night

Drew Barrymore, Jessica Lange, Grey Gardens Vivian Baker/HBO
More from Marc Malkin

Picture this: Emmy nominees Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore tie for the big win when the awards are handed out next month.

When I recently suggested the scenario to Lange, she said it would be quite fitting because the real-life characters they played in Grey Gardens, Big Edie Beale and her daughter, Little Edie, were inseparable. Lange and Barrymore are both up for Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie for their work in the Michael Sucsy-directed HBO production.

"Oh, wouldn't that be great," Lange said. "I think that would be poetic justice. It would be the perfect end to our little journey here."

So what was it like for Lange to transform herself into a delusional recluse who lived with her only daughter in a decrepit East Hampton home full of cats and raccoons? Read on to find out, plus what role Lange would love to do on Broadway.

Drew Barrymore Gets Grey Gardens Family Approval

Drew Barrymore Steve Granitz/Getty Images

Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange are getting high praise for their performances in HBO's Grey Gardens from the people who know the story like no other: Big Edie Beale's grandchildren.

"I thought it was spectacular," Michelle Beale, whose father (Phelan Jr.) was Big Edie's older son, told me last night at the L.A. premiere at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Michelle's cousin Christopher Beale (dad was Buddy Beale) added, "Very, very well done."

Read on for more on what they have to say about Barrymore and Lange, why not everyone in the family is a fan of Albert and David Maysles' original documentary and why their dads wished cousin Jackie O had not cleaned up the now legendary estate.

Grey Gardens: A Field of Dreams

Grey Gardens premieres tomorrow on night on HBO!

Y'all know how excited I've been about this movie and now—finally!—I can tell you what I think.

No surprise, but I loved it. If I didn't, do you really think I would have given Drew Barrymore & Co. so much press?

Click my videoblog above for more on my love affair with all things Grey Gardens.

Robert Pattinson: Is That Really You?

There's more to Robert Pattinson than just Twilight, thank you very much.

Before baring his fangs and sucking blood as Edward Cullen, the Brit boy donned a funky mustache to play surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in Little Ashes, an independent film that hits theaters next month.

Pattz isn't the only A-lister we'll soon be seeing in Hollywood versions of the lives of real people. Drew Barrymore is up next as Jackie O's eccentric cousin Little Edie in Grey Gardens, premiering Saturday on HBO.

Drew Barrymore: The Weight Is Over for Grey Gardens

Loading...

It wasn't some fad Hollywood diet that caused Drew Barrymore to lose a considerable—and noticeable—amount of weight during the making of Grey Gardens.

"I got really thin while I was making the movie because I was so fraught with anxiety," Barrymore explained to me. "I couldn't eat for a while."

Director Michael Sucsy more than suggested Barrymore increase her calorie intake.

Going Ga-Ga for Grey Gardens

Loading...

If you don't know by now, I am super excited about Grey Gardens. And it just got even better for me now that I've received my invitation to the premiere.

Drew Barrymore! Jessica Lange! The legendary Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard!

The movie, based on the camp-classic documentary of the same name, premieres on HBO on April 18. And I have an idea on how everyone could celebrate all things Grey Gardens. Check out today's videoblog to hear all about it.

Drew Barrymore Going the Distance With Justin Long

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long are back together—at least for a movie!

A source tells me that Ms. Barrymore has just signed on to star opposite—yup!—her former boyfriend in the romantic comedy Going the Distance.

New Line announced earlier this month that Long will star in the flick about a man and woman in a long-distance relationship.
