Colin Egglesfield Explains His Shocking Dismissal From Melrose Place

Melrose Place, Colin Egglesfield, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Patrick Wymore/The CW

Man, life is rough.

One day you're happy as a clam, working as a castmember on a prime-time network drama, and the next day someone's feeding you a line about changes in your show's "tone" and shuffling you off to Buffalo.

That's what just happened to departing Melrose Place star Colin Egglesfield, who sums up his roller-coaster Thursday this way: "I've had better days, to be quite honest."

We just spoke to Colin exclusively to find out why he's being pushed out of the show, not to mention where Auggie fits into the show's big murder mystery, and despite what you may have theorized, Auggie's not getting killed off, and despite what you may have been told, this exit was not planned from the beginning: "[They said it] was a network decision and obviously the ratings aren't what they need or want them to be, so they're going to try things to shake things up."

So what really happened today, and what's going to happen next on Melrose Place? Here's what we learned from Colin:

Heather Locklear Is in Talks to Return to Melrose Place

Is the bitch back?

Maybe.

While the CW officially has no comment, inside sources confirm reports that Heather Locklear is indeed in talks to appear on the new Melrose Place as Amanda Woodward.

Locklear appeared as a "special guest star" on the original series, which ran from 1992 to 1999.

But how many episodes does Heather want to do?

Melrose Place: A "Post-AIDS Sexual Revolution"

Melrose Place Cast CW

If you want to be part of the new sexual revolution, you'd better tune in to the new Melrose Place Sept. 8 on the CW. At least that's the message we took away from Wednesday's Q&A with executive producer Todd Slavkin.

In the Year of Melrose Place, CW Boss Talks Spinoffs, Crossovers, Remakes and Dead Pilots

Melrose Place Cast CW

The CW has original content. Really. Sure, the CW schedule seems to be chock-full of remakes, book adaptations, franchise extensions and spinoffs, but there is TV-native material on there somewhere. (We're sitting in the Life Unexpected panel right now, and that's totally an original series.)

Still, this is the year of Melrose Place (it's gonna be so good, you guys), and as such, the spotlight at the Television Press Tour was on the myriad ways that the See-Dub might further capitalize on its success reimagining existing material.

What about another Gossip Girl spinoff? Could there be a third '90s series remake on the network after 90210 and Melrose PlaceParty of Five, anyone? Read on for the answers from CW boss Dawn Ostroff herself.

The Beautiful Life Producer Ashton Kutcher Defends Star Mischa Barton

Ashton Kutcher, Mischa Barton, The Beautiful Life Takashi Seida/The CW, Angela Weiss/Getty Images

To hear Ashton Kutcher tell it, everything is copacetic with The Beautiful Life star Mischa Barton. Sure, she was recently hospitalized, and she wasn't at the Television Critics Association press tour this morning, and she's been plagued by "not! stable!" rumors since her O.C. days, but aplusk isn't letting anybody talk smack about his girl. Ashton told reporters, "[Mischa] was never unavailable for a day of work...Mischa's in New York working today."

Oh, and did we mention that Ashton also described Mischa, who plays supermodel Sonja Stone on the CW's upcoming fashionista series, as a grande dame of TV drama? Well, he didn't actually call her a dame, but close enough...

This Just In: Brian Austin Green Joins Smallville

Brian Austin Green Brian To/Getty Images

Good morning, TV fans! Let's start the day off with a roundup of CW casting news, including updates on Smallville, One Tree Hill and Supernatural.

• Brian Austin Green will follow up on his genre work on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles with a guest stint on Smallville as killer cyborg Metallo.

Bonus BAG Sighting: Our dearly departed Derek Reese, who is apparently the CW's new favorite thing—what with Body Politic, the OTH rumors and now Smallville—was spotted this morning at Manhattan Bagel on Ventura Blvd. in the Valley. Fan report from the scene: He was nice. (Yes, we are the hardest hard-nosed reporters evar.)

One Tree Hill's newest castmember (after Robert Buckley) will be Shantel VanSanten, as Quinn, Haley's older sister.

Our favorite TV casting rumor of the summer has been debunked by all parties: Wentworth Miller will not be appearing as Lucifer on season five of Supernatural. At least that's not the plan right now, but it should become the plan, because, well...can you imagine?

Who's your dream casting for Lucifer on Supernatural? Post in the comments!

The CW confirms word of a schedule changeup: One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl are switching time slots on Monday nights, with OTH launching at 8 p.m. and Gossip Girl moving to 9 p.m.

Could the move mean our graduating Gossip Girl characters are growing up and need a later hour for more adult storylines? Read on for the scoop, and get the official list of fall premiere dates for all your CW faves!

The Body Politic: The Best Pilot You May Never See

Minka Kelly, Jason Dohring Dan Herrick/ZUMApress.com; Kevin Parry/The Paley Center for Media

Imagine a world in which a CW show has an actual chance of winning an Emmy. Thanks to network boss Dawn Ostroff, that world is slipping through her fingers.

We mean no disrespect to shows like Gossip Girl and Smallville, but if the CW ever wants us to take it seriously as a trademark network of our generation, it needs to branch out from its usual routine of picking up shows geared for a younger audience. The Body Politic is a cure to that problem.

In fact, The Body Politic would bring a new level of respect to the CW that we've yet to see since the network kicked off in 2006.

We've screened the pilot and read the script several times, and each time we're dumbfounded by why The Body Politic is not on the fall TV schedule. Get a sneak peek at the series below, along with everything you need to know about BP that will make you say, "Dawn! Pick this show up!" Plus an update on how the Brian Austin Green/One Tree Hill drama would affect the series.

CW Upfront Report: Is Lily Dead or What?

CW NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Here's what you need to know from this morning's CW upfront:

  • The Gossip Girl spinoff remains marginally alive despite not getting a series pickup for fall. CW president Dawn Ostroff says, "It was the toughest year we've ever had, figuring out what to pick up, because [our pilots] were all really, really good. We do have room for another midseason show. We have some reality, and we'll probably have another scripted drama. We're just going to take a beat and see where we are. In all honesty, I think the Gossip Girl spinoff is the show that we would love to be able to find a place for as the season goes on." (There were no similarly encouraging words about Body Politic with Jason Dohring, Brian Austin Green, Minka Kelly and Gabrielle Union.)
  • Reaper, Privileged, The Game and Everybody Hates Chris are confirmed dead.
  • Like we told you yesterday, the CW schedule will be: Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill on Mondays, 90210 and new show Melrose Place on Tuesdays, Top Model and new show The Beautiful Life on Wednesdays, new show Vampire Diaries (can.not.wait.) and Supernatural on Thursdays and Smallville and a Top Model repeat on Fridays.

Read on for our liveblog of the presentation and press conference, including scoop on a 90210-Melrose Place crossover event...
