Sightings: Stars Light Up the Night In the Desert
After the the Killers delivered a killer performance at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., stars partied the night away at the T-Mobile G1 Tone-Def party.
Paris Hilton and her boyfriend, Doug Reinhardt, drank and danced with Paris' sister, Nicky Hilton, and her bf, David Katzenberg. At one point, Paris and Nicky hopped up on a speaker and shimmied for the crowd.
As if that wasn't reason enough to holler "Woot!", it was also Carmen Electra's birthday, which she celebrated with a pink-frosted marble cake that she shared with fiancé Rob Patterson.
Adrian Grenier was showing off his new squeeze, a short brunette whom he was spotted holding hands with earlier in the night when they attended the show.
Grenier's Entourage costar Kevin Connolly was spotted hanging out with Taryn Manning at a VIP table.
Pink Floyd's Peripatetic Pig Meets Gruesome End
Get PETA on the horn, stat: Roger Waters' escaped porker has landed, and it ain't pretty.
The helium-filled bacon balloon had been MIA since floating away into the Southern California desert during the Pink Floyd mastermind's Sunday-night set at Coachella, prompting concert promoters to offer a reward for its return.
The shredded corpse of the creature, a staple of Floyd shows since 1977, was recovered by two couples at the Hideaway Golf Club in La Quinta, Calif., according to the Desert Sun of nearby Palm Springs.
Coachella officials positively ID'd the tattered porcine remains, and the couples will each get tickets for life to the alt-music festival and split a finder's fee of $10,000.
As for the fate of the punctured pig prop? As Porky might say, that's all, folks.
Breaking News
Lost: One Huge, Inflatable Pig
Roger Waters lost his pig, and would like him back, please.
The big pig is a stage prop that's two stories high, inflatable and was last seen floating away during the former Pink Floyd main man’s performance at Coachella Sunday.
Released during the song "Pigs," the pork dirigible, according to AP and NME, was scrawled with antiwar graffiti ("Don't be led to the slaughter") and an apparent Barack Obama endorsement.
(Question: Where was Hillary Clinton during the festival? Also, can pigs vote?)
As it escaped, Waters reportedly said, "That's my pig."
Instead of making rubbery bacon out of the thing, potential finders should know the safe return of the flying swine will bring a reward of $10,000 and four Coachella tickets for life. Email lostpig@coachella.com if you have information (though as of 8 p.m. Monday night emails were bouncing back).
No reports suggest the pig said, “Th-th-that’s all, folks” before heading off toward the dark side of the moon, but we’d like to think it did.
Stars Out All Night at Coachella
No valet, no red carpet and a Hilton sister wearing flip-flops? We must be at the T-Mobile Sidekick Tone Def after-party in Coachella Valley.
The music festival's famous fans, like Paris Hilton, Jared Leto, Sienna Miller and more, braved the dusty desert to hit the T-Mobile bash Saturday night, held at an airport hangar and lasting into the early hours of the a.m.
Paris spent most of her night with b-f Benji Madden and Nicky (who was sporting flip-flops). Hilton bro Barron was also spotted hanging at their table.
Meanwhile, Carmen Electra stayed glued to her new fiancé, Rob Patterson, and dished that they haven't set a date yet.
Nicole, Joel and Harlow Hit Coachella
Joel Madden took the whole family with him to the desert this weekend for Coachella, where he was deejaying at the BPM Hpnotiq House.
"We're all here," Joel told E!, revealing his weekend plans with Nicole Richie and baby Harlow. "We have a nice little house. We're just sitting by the pool. It's really relaxing. We are going to stay the whole weekend."
While Nicole was on hand to support her man as he spun, they wisely left little Harlow back in their rented pad. Joel was overheard telling fellow party guest Taryn Manning that Nic is a super mom and he's proud to be with her. All together now...awww!
Coachella Bands Together
The California desert is gonna get hot this weekend.
And we aren’t just talking about the expected 100-degree heat, because that’s pretty hot already.
The ninth annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival kicks off today in Indio, Calif. This year, Prince will headline Saturday night, with good-vibey Jack Johnson capping tonight's performances and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters taking the top slot Sunday.
The fest features more than 125 acts, including the Raconteurs, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Justice, Portishead, M.I.A., Kraftwerk and many more.
Fans can get updated info at the website as well as catch live webcasts at the AT&T blue room.
Prince: The Artist Now Known as Cash Cow
Prince is rolling in some major bank!
The Purple One put on a “surprise” concert last night at Green Door in Hollywood. But what was really surprising was the ticket price and payment: He charged $200 a ticket—and only cash was accepted, according to sources.
The place was packed with about 250 people, according to my insider.
Um, that’s $50,000 in cash!
I’m sure Prince fanatics lucky enough to get in thought it was well worth it. He went on at about 12:30 and performed songs including “1999,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Cream,” “Controversy,” “Kiss” and a cover of Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon."
The show ended at about 2 a.m. with "Purple Rain."
So who was there? Pink, Adrian Grenier, Amy Smart, Bill Maher, Leelee Sobieski, Tara Reid, Melanie Griffith and Brit actor and former pro soccer player Vinnie Jones.
Prince has been a regular at Green Door’s Jazz Night on Tuesdays, where just a couple of weeks ago he jumped on stage for an impromptu—and free—performance.
Next up? He heads to the Southern California desert for an April 26 gig at the Coachella Music Festival.
Don't forget your greenbacks!
Coachella Goes Back in Time
Coachella's indie roots will be watered down with classic rock this year.
Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters has been tapped for the festival's closing slot, performing the band's 1973 opus, Dark Side of the Moon, in its entirety, organizers announced.
The full lineup for the 2008 edition of the music festival was revealed Monday at a news conference in Mexico, with mellow rocker Jack Johnson and trip-hop trio Portishead set to hold down the other two headlining slots.
Other highlights at this year's Coachella include Kraftwerk, the Breeders, the Verve, Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Rilo Kiley, the Raconteurs and Fatboy Slim.
As soon as the official lineup was announced, message boards were jammed with reactions from fans, many disappointed that some of the bands most mentioned by the rumor mill in recent weeks—among them Radiohead, David Bowie, No Doubt and My Bloody Valentine—were absent from the bill.
Nor did the headliners meet with universal approval, considering that the festival has upped the ante in years past by featuring reunions of bands such as the Pixies and Rage Against the Machine. Somehow Jack Johnson, whose most recent album was the soundtrack to 2006's Curious George, failed to generate the same levels of excitement.
Also at Monday's conference, promoter Goldenvoice revealed the launch of a new three-day festival in New Jersey, dubbed the All Points West Music & Arts Festival. The inaugural event is due to take place at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, Aug. 8-10.
The three-day Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is scheduled for Apr. 25-27 at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. Tickets go on sale Friday, with a single-day pass retailing for $90 and a three-day pass going for $269.
