Clay Still Achin' for Spamalot
Fresh from taking on an all-new role (fatherhood...you may have heard?), Clay Aiken is returning to a slightly more familiar one.
The erstwhile leader of the Claynation is set to reprise his role as Sir Robin in the Broadway production of Spamalot, assuming the coconut-clacking position this September.
"Since leaving Spamalot in May, jokes have just not been funny," Aiken said in a statement. "Food has lost its taste. The grass is no longer green—the sky no longer blue. And babies WON'T stop crying!!
"I'm so excited about coming back to the funniest show in the world!"
Introducing Clay Aiken Jr.
Photos just surfaced of Clay Aiken and his baby mama, Jaymes Foster (not pictured), leaving a Durham, N.C., hospital Monday with their bundle of joy in tow.
While not much of li'l Parker Foster Aiken is visible beyond this baby blanket, papa Clay is apparently comfortable enough on daddy duty that he can carry the kid with just one arm. Seems like the man's a natural.
Meanwhile, we can only hope to get a better look at Parker once one of the weekly tabs ponies up for the pics. Clay's kid may not raise $14 million (à la Brangelina), but he's got to be worth a decent amount, right?
Update
The Clay Baby Is Born
Good news, Claymates: The Claynation has welcomed its first heir.
Clay Aiken and platonic baby-making partner Jaymes Foster welcomed their first child together in North Carolina this morning.
"I'm sure you know...I hate putting the cast before the horse," AIken wrote on his site. "Not my way to tempt fate. But I wanted to stop by, if only for a second, so you could be the first folks I tell...HE'S HERE!
"My dear friend, Jaymes, and I are so excited to announce the birth of Parker Foster Aiken (No hyphens. One first name. One middle name. One last name)."
Clay Embraces Another Nation
Clay Aiken believes that Somalia's children need a better future.
"There hasn't been much discussion of Somalia since the early 1990s in the U.S.," the UNICEF goodwill ambassador said Wednesday, speaking from the northern outpost of Somaliland in the East African nation.
"The American population kind of got a bad taste of Somalia in the early '90s and hasn't really had much interest in the country since."
Claymates Rejoice! Aiken's Baby Makin'
Well, that's one way to show the measure of a man.
Clay Aiken is expanding the ranks of the Claynation by one, expecting a child with music producer Jaymes Foster this summer.
The sister of music kingpin David Foster, the baby mama is a Grammy winner who worked with Aiken on several albums, including A Thousand Different Ways and his most recent release, On My Way Here.
A rep for David Foster confirmed what TMZ first reported this morning, that the couple certain to be dubbed Faiken conceived via artificial insemination and their progeny is due in August.
"She looks great, glowing and very happy. She and Clay have been good friends for a long time," the rep told The Insider.
Who Is Hotter: Clay Aiken or Josh Groban?
Musically, of course.
These two titans go head to head this week on the charts. While Clay Aiken has been enjoying a meaty role in Spamalot, Josh Groban surprised us recently with his deeply moving appearance in Jimmy Kimmel's video valentine to Ben Affleck.
So what's it gonna be: Clay's On My Way Here (which is totally hot for your mom) or Josh's Awake Live CD/DVD (which is offering you 23 minutes of its epic awesomeness here).
Let us know your choice, and then check out the rest of the week’s new music:
Clay Aiken Has Us Seeing Double
We have been staring at this photo all morning, trying to figure out which one is Clay Aiken, as the resemblance between the crooner and his Spamalot costar Hannah Waddingham is striking.
Seriously. The bleached-blond hair, the waxed eyebrows, the petite noses—damn, this is tough!
Oh, wait, never mind. We just noticed the jacket and tie.
Clay must be the other one.
Clay Aiken: TV Huckster
While this news will no doubt bring joy to all you Claymates, it definitely left us scratching our heads.
Clay Aiken is scheduled to appear and perform on—of all places—QVC next Monday to hawk his new CD (and fourth studio release) On My Way Here.
"Starting my career on national, live television, it seems fitting to be unveiling my new album live on QVC," says Clay. "To be able to connect with QVC's viewers and broadcast my performance to over 93 million households is an amazing opportunity."
This coming from the guy who, despite being a runner-up on American Idol, has managed to sell millions of records, establish a fiercely loyal fan base and is successfully belting out show tunes night after night on the Great White Way.
We can see where he needs the help.
