Katharine McPhee: I Wouldn't Be Surprised If Simon Ditched American Idol, Too
Katharine McPhee wasn't exactly shocked to learn that Paula Abdul was leaving American Idol.
"It doesn't surprise me, because it wouldn't surprise me if Simon Cowell was leaving the show," McPhee told me at last night's benefit concert for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and Feeding America.
"They've all been on the show for so many years…Do what you've got to do," she said. "People try to figure out the real stories and I'm like, 'Who cares? She wants to go.' "
In fact, McPhee thinks it's time for the show to shake things up a bit with someone like Ellen DeGeneres...

Applegate Going to the Movies With Barrymore
Christina Applegate is now family to Drew Barrymore.
A source exclusively reveals to me that the Samantha Who? star has signed on for a role in Going the Distance, a romantic comedy starring Barrymore and her maybe-real-life boyfriend Justin Long as a couple in a long-distance relationship...
Twitterverses: Miley's Brother on Beer and Babes
• Miley Cyrus' 20-year-old brother, Trace Cyrus, is on tour with his band, Metro Station, and doing all the kinds of things you expect the rebel Cyrus to do when he's a gazillion miles from his family: "So yeah. Beer is gross to me. Even Japanese beer. But I opened it so I must finish! Plus it's legal to drink here! So why not? Right." He's also diggin' the locals: "Japanese girls... Agh!! God must of felt very giving when making you. As my old man would say.. Can I get a amen!?"
• If Denise Richards' hair color is looking a bit off, here's why: "my house has copper plumbing.my daughters hair and mine is turning green..we've tried everything."
• Christina Applegate doesn't write often, but when she does, it's a burst of joy and sweetness: "Rode on the back of a scooter through a very busy and beautiful city last night. It was thrilling. How is everyone today?"
• Martha Stewart has some interesting neighbors: "This Baby Camel was born down the street from me yesterday at my friends the Steinharts."
• Jon Favreau is rather proud of his Iron Man 2 casting: "Scarlett [Johansson] kicked ass yesterday. All of her preparation has really paid off. She has a great work ethic. A real pro."
• Danny Masterson wants to be a casting director: " Can someone please make a movie starring tina fey and bonnie hunt! Id pay 2 watch them drink coffee 2gether......"

Applegate, Pattinson, Clooney & an Obama Top People's Beautiful List
Don't hate them because they're beautiful. Hate them because they're the most beautiful.
People has unveiled its annual ode to aesthetics, aka its 100 Most Beautiful People list, and, in addition to usual suspects Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Halle Berry and reigning Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman, some of Hollywood's newest faces made the superficial cut.
The beautiful inside-and-out Christina Applegate scored the double issue's coveted cover for gracefully and publicly making it through her battle with breast cancer and subsequent double mastectomy, which she underplayed as a "rollercoaster of emotions…"
"A part of you is gone," she said. "It's a decision that you made to save your life."
Meanwhile, representing the younger contingent of annual eye candy is Slumdog Millionaire's maybe-couple Freida Pinto and Dev Patel, Twilight's onscreen-only couple (sorry, fanggirls) Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and at least two of the three Jonas Brothers.
Samantha Where? Applegate Benched for Bachelor
Looks like Christina Applegate won't be receiving a rose anytime soon.
ABC announced today that Samantha Who? will be benched to make way for the better-performing Bachelor. Samantha previously aired at 9:30 p.m. on Mondays, following Dancing With the Stars. The 13th cycle of the romantic reality show took over the time slot at the beginning of January.
This temporary hold allows singleton Jason Mesnick and his lovelies to continue to get inflated episodes on Mondays from 8 to 10 p.m.
Fans shouldn't worry too much about Samantha When. The network hasn't set a return date for the sitcom yet, but it will most likely be soon after Mesnick awards his final rose on March 2.
But just to hold you over a bit, an ABC spokesperson tells E! News that when the laugher does return, Golden Globe nominee Applegate will be joined by former Women's Murder Club hottie Angie Harmon as the ex-wife of Billy Zane's Funk.
A Shining Dark Knight for the People
Was there any doubt that fans would remember 2008 as the year of the Caped Crusader and his gnarliest nemesis yet?
The Dark Knight went five for five and was named Favorite Movie at the 35th Annual People's Choice Awards, which returned to its usual star-studdedness Wednesday after an '08 broadcast held at the height of the actor-supported Hollywood writers' strike.
The serious Oscar contender was also rewarded for its awesomeness with honors for Favorite Cast, Action Movie and Onscreen Matchup, which spotlighted Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. Bale was also deemed the year's Favorite Superhero.
"Thank you very, very much," said Bale, flanked by Aaron Eckhart and director Christopher Nolan, upon accepting the evening's top award. "And on behalf of all of the cast from the movie, thank you very much to the fans. Here's to Heath, thank you."
First Look: Mary-Kate Olsen on Samantha Who?
It seems like forever ago that Watch With Kristin broke the awesome news that Mary-Kate Olsen (our favorite!) would be guest starring on Samantha Who?. Now, four long months later, there are pictures!
M.K.'s episode will air Nov. 10. In it, she stars as Natalie, a troubled young woman Samantha meets in community service. Sam sees her preamnesia bad-girl self in Natalie, so naturally she wants to help Nat get back on the straight and narrow. Jokes ensue.
There's M.K. drinking with the grown-ups, and keep scrolling to check out her adorable d'oh face...
Christina Applegate Feeling "So Much Better"
She's feeling good now, but Samantha Who? star Christina Applegate reveals on today's Ellen DeGeneres Show that "for about five weeks" after her breast cancer surgery, she kept relatively mum at work.
"I told my makeup and hair people and people that are really close to me, just so I had a protection wall, so that no one was pushing me," says the 36-year-old actress, jokingly adding, "because they do that a lot on my set. They just shove me...just randomly, for no reason."
