It's not quite the ultimate battle of good versus evil, but it'll do: America's Sweetheart is taking on a freshly jail-broken porn star in what's shaping up to be quite the headline-grabbing custody dispute.

The child in question is 5-year-old Sunny James, the daughter of Monster Garage host Jesse James and his trouble-plagued, sobriety-challenged, adult-film-star ex, Janine Lindemulder.

For the better part of the last year, James (with a massive maternal assist from wife Sandra Bullock) has had sole custody of the child, due primarily to the fact that Lindemulder has spent the past six months behind bars for tax evasion.

But now she's out and looking for a return stake in parental duties. And what better place to find that than Good Morning America?

"What would give her the right to take away my daughter?" Lindemulder said of Bullock, toward whom the majority of her ire seems directed. "This is my daughter. I'm the best mother I can be."

And while she admitted on the morning show that she's "absolutely made horrific choices in the past," she stresses that her life is currently back on track.

Though Bullock and James beg to differ.

We knew there was more going on between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck than meets the eye.

Jokes about their level of closeness and who's banging Jimmy Kimmel aside, it turns out the longtime pals and Oscar-winning screenwriters really are more than friends and writing partners. In fact, they're related!

According to the New England Genealogical Society, the actors are both descendants of bricklayer William Knowlton Jr., an Englishman who settled in Ipswich, Mass., around 1630.

That would make Affleck and Damon approximately 10th cousins, once removed. Affleck was born in Berkeley, Calif., but spent his formative years in Boston, where he and Damon became friends.

Last week Katherine Heigl stopped by Ellen DeGeneres' show to announce she and husband Josh Kelley were adopting a little Korean girl.

And now she would like to share pictures of 10-month-old Nancy Leigh or, as Heigl notes on her Jason Heigl Foundation website, "She will go by the nickname Naleigh."

The three make such an adorable family, it's definitely going to make it harder to get angry at Katherine for all her entitled complaining. 

So congrats! May the future be filled with many more touching family photos where everyone wears complementary-colored (but not matchy-matchy!) sweaters.

This year's most gushed over guardians are reality 'rents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. The 18 Kids and Counting progenitors have been named the 2009 National Parents of the Year by the National Parents' Day Council, who assures the public the selection was the result of quality, not quantity parenting.

The Duggars picked up their one accolade (and counting) at Maryland's Tontitown City Hall last week, with their 10 boys and 8 girls, aged 7 months to 20 years, in attendance for the honor-bestowal.

And with their eldest expecting a babe of his own next month, we suspect the 2010 Grandparents of the Year award is as good as locked up.

The Duggars are fine and all, but what we want to know is, who was robbed?

Jennifer Garner is up at the Toronto Film Festival promoting her new movie, The Invention of Lying. With a title like that, one question is obvious: Do you ever tell lies?

And imagine that! She does.

Especially to her children, although Violet is beginning to suspect mermaids aren't real...

But Garner's husband, Ben Affleck, does not abide by little white lies. Sure, they might speed up his wife's getting-ready process, but if that means Jen looking fat in her jeans, he will intervene.

What a nice husband.

• Kate Gosselin cleans up pretty nice. Really nice, actually. These pictures are supposed to say something along the lines of 'Shove it, lame fish Jon.'
