Whoopi for India.Arie's Broadway Debut
India.Arie isn't just the average girl from your "Video" anymore.
The neo-soul songstress is set to make her Broadway debut Sept. 8 in a Whoopi Goldberg-produced revival of the Obie Award-winning For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.
The 1975 drama, by playwright Ntozake Shange, is a collection of 20 prosaic poems, each a reflection on modern American life as experienced by black women. The characters do not have names but are instead identified by monikers such as "Lady in Brown" and "Lady in Purple."
Previews begin Aug. 19 at Circle in the Square.
Arie, whose tune "The Heart of the Matter" can be heard on the Sex and the City movie soundtrack, won two Grammys in 2003, including Best R&B Album for Voyage to India.

TomKat: Housewarming Bash, Part Deux?
Now that they've gotten the star-studded housewarming party at their new Beverly Hills estate out of the way, are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes also planning on taking up residence in the Big Apple?
Well, Katie has been busy preparing to make her debut on the Great White Way this fall in Arthur Miller's All My Sons. And the play's producer, Eric Falkenstein, tells the New York Post, "She and Tom are committed to keeping the family together, so they have to get an apartment here."
Wonder if they'll bring Posh and Becks along as roomies?
Siriano: Makin' Whoopi's "Ruffled Extravaganza"
Can’t wait to see what Christian Siriano is whipping up for Whoopi Goldberg to wear when she hosts the Tony Awards?
“It’s going to be a ruffled extravaganza,” the Project Runway winner told me yesterday at the official MTV Movie Awards post-party. “She’s going to be wearing a skinny pant, fabulous heels for days, a great jacket and a fabulous coat-cap kind of thing.”
Gilbert Heads Back to the Prairie
Nothing like someone who knows the lay of the land to make you feel right at home.
Melissa Gilbert, who played the precocious Laura Ingalls on the tear-jerking NBC drama Little House on the Prairie, has joined the upcoming Broadway production of Little House, which will begin previews at the Guthrie Theater July 26.
Opening night is scheduled for Aug. 15.
Gilbert, who practically grew up on the Little House set, spending nine years getting into scrapes, learning lessons and warming hearts as Laura, will step into the more mature role of Caroline "Ma" Ingalls, who was played by Karen Grassle in the series.
Stage veteran Steve Blanchard will star as Charles "Pa" Ingalls, the heart of the homestead originally embodied by the late Michael Landon.

Project Runway Is Makin' Whoopi for the Tonys
The Tony Awards are gonna be fierce this year.
We can exclusively report that show host Whoopi Goldberg will be wearing a design by Project Runway winner Christian Siriano on the big night.
"I am dressing Whoopi Goldberg for the Tonys," Siriano revealed the other night at the Declare Yourself and American Eagle celebrity T-shirt launch in Los Angeles.
Reps for the Tonys and Goldberg confirmed Siriano's latest gig.
The Tonys will be handed out at Radio City Hall in New York City June 15 and telecast live on CBS.
Meanwhile, the New York Daily News reported yesterday that Goldberg has gotten the Big Apple's mayor, Michael Bloomberg, to tape a bit for the show. "He's my friend, and who better to start the night than the mayor of New York City?" Goldberg told the News.

Katie Holmes Gives Her Regards to Broadway
Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman have something else in common.
Tom Cruise's current better half will be taking Broadway by storm this fall in a revival of Arthur Miller's All My Sons, costarring Dianne Wiest, John Lithgow and Little Children hunk Patrick Wilson.
Holmes' rep told E! News in March that the 29-year-old actress was in talks to make her professional stage debut.
A place and a premiere date haven't been determined, but Simon McBurney will direct the tale of a family torn apart by the repercussions of its patriarch's black-market business dealings during World War II, based on a true story. All My Sons scored Miller a Tony Award for writing in 1947.
Kidman made her debut on the Great White Way 10 years ago, when she was still Mrs. Cruise, in The Blue Room.
MTV's Blonde Moment
Eat your heart out, Reese Witherspoon.
Not only is Haylie Duff executive producing MTV's new reality competition show Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods, but she'll also be featured in the series as a mentor to 10 young women competing to star in the hit Broadway adaptation of the Witherspoon flick. "They were all really hungry for it," Duff told me earlier today. "They were willing to put in whatever it took."
And that includes some backstabbing catfights, Duff said. "You have 10 girls with no cell phone, no money, no outside life other than this and each other," Duff said of the show, which premieres on MTV June 2. "And you know half of them would never be friends in real life outside of this, so of course there's that type of drama."
Duff knows what it's like to live the Broadway life. For three months toward the end of her television series, 7th Heaven, she starred in Hairspray as Amber von Tussle. "I was filming 7th Heaven in the morning and doing Hairspray at night," she said. "Eight shows a week takes a lot out of you. It feels like your whole life shuts down."

Mario Lopez Likes to Get Naked
Mario Lopez has nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to his body.
But even he has his limits.
The former Dancing With the Stars contestant told me Playgirl has come calling. “I politely declined,” he said with a laugh. “It’s not something for me at the moment. But it’s ironic, because I’m, like, ‘nature boy.’ I’m always running around the house in underwear or nothing.”
Lopez didn’t invite me to hang at his place, but no matter. Just check out his new book, Mario Lopez’s Knockout Fitness.
