Sundance Notebook: Latin Liftoff in Park City

As the 2009 Sundance Film Festival finishes up its first day, the evening brings some Latin flavor to Park City. That's because two of international cinema's hottest young actors, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, have flown in for the premiere of Rudo y Cursi, their first film together since their 2001 breakthrough hit, Y Tu Mamá También.

E! News spoke to Gael and his director, Carlos Cuaron, brother of Y Tu Mama filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron, who's making his feature-helming debut on this light-hearted comedy about two rival soccer-playing brothers. Gael not only discussed recently becoming a dad for the first time but also his long association with Luna, with whom he came up in the film world (see video above).

Rudo y Cursi was executive produced by Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro González Iñárritu via their Cha Cha Cha production banner. Del Toro recently moved to New Zealand for five years to direct The Hobbit and a sequel under the aegis of Peter Jackson, and is currently working on the script for that mega-production. But he also took time out and flew across the Pacific to help celebrate the occasion.

Hear what he and the others had to say (see video above) at a sparkling cast and crew gourmet pre-premiere dinner on Friday that was sponsored by Bon Appétit magazine and celebrity chef Scott Conant, owner of Scarpetta restaurant in New York City.

Bounce back later today for another Sundance Reporter's Notebook and video blog, featuring interviews with Spike Lee and Wesley Snipes.
