Review of the best and worst in fashion from the 2009 Golden Globes red carpet

One of our favorite red carpet trends of the evening? Stars who swapped basic black for the more interesting aubergine—or as Hayden Panettiere described her Gianfranco Ferré gown, "deep purple." The grape-ish hue was also a winner on Miss Golden Globe, Rumer Willis, and True Blood's Best Actress darling Anna Paquin, dressed in Hervé Leroux.

On our not-so-loved list...

The busy little ruffles dominating the pastel dresses of Olivia Wilde (Reem Acra) and Elizabeth Banks (J. Mendel). Sorry, ladies, but all we could think of when looking at your froufrou frocks was, "Oh my, what fancy tissue-box toppers!"

Granted, you're much prettier than anything Grandma ever had on display, but no red carpet ensemble should ever remind us of bathroom decor.
