John Travolta and Kelly Preston, along with a small group of family and friends, are preparing to say goodbye to 16-year-old Jett with an intimate memorial service set for this afternoon in Ocala, Fla.

The service is expected to take place at the Travoltas' home at the Jumbolair Aviation Estates around 4 p.m. ET and will reflect the family's Scientology faith.

Fans have already begun leaving flowers, posters and other messages of sympathy for Travolta, Preston and 8-year-old daughter Ella at the gates of their estate.

Forest Whitaker, who costarred with Travolta in both Phenomenon and Battlefield Earth, also offered his condolences.

"Our families have had a long loving friendship, and John and Kelly are amazing parents," he said in a statement. "We have watched each other's children grow and cannot imagine the loss of Jett.

"He was a bright and beautiful young man, and we are honored to have known him. We ask that you continue to send them prayers, love and give them space to mourn."

Though the memorial is expected to be kept small, and it's unclear whether many of the Travoltas' celebrity friends will be attending, Ocala officials made it clear earlier this week that they were amenable and available to lend assistance.

The scene outside the Travolta home has been subdued, but a police presence is on hand to help with crowd control and keep the growing swarm of media at a distance from the home. Several delivery vehicles were spotted entering the grounds earlier today, including trucks carrying food and flowers.

Jett Travolta died Jan. 2 while his family was vacationing in the Bahamas. An autopsy was conducted, and while the results have not been revealed, his death certificate listed "seizure" as the cause of death. His cremated remains were transported back to the U.S. by his parents on Monday.
