Slumdog Snags Satellite, Boston Treats

Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Patel, Freida Pinto Fox Searchlight

Slumdog Millionaire keeps barking right along the path to Oscar.

Danny Boyle's acclaimed Bollywood fable just picked up two more top prizes, winning Best Picture from both the Boston Society of Film Critics and the Satellite Awards.

For the first time ever, the Boston critics had a hard time settling on a top dog, so it declared a tie for Best Picture prize between Slumdog and Disney-Pixar's WALL-E.

Beantown reviewers were also indecisive about Best Actor, so they gave a big wet kiss to both Sean Penn (Milk) and Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler). Best Actress went to Sally Hawkins for her hilariously eccentric turn in Happy Go-Lucky.

As for the Satellites, the self-styled Golden Globes rival voted on by the International Press Academy, other notable winners include Angelina Jolie (Best Actress for Changeling) and Richard Jenkins (Best Actor for The Visitor) and Boyle (Best Director, Slumdog Millionaire).
