Should a Sitcom Star Be New York's Next Senator?

Maybe. We'd support congressional ambitions from Tina Fey, Holland Taylor or possibly that guy who played Balki on Perfect Strangers. (We like his fiscal policy.)

But Fran Drescher? The former star of The Nanny would like to take over the Senate seat being given up by Hillary Clinton, and—ditch the laugh track—she ain't kidding.

Her publicist confirmed this, releasing a statement saying Drescher's experience as an "actress, women's health advocate and public diplomacy envoy for the U.S. State Department" qualified her for consideration. There was no reference to her role in Spinal Tap, which we consider a serious omission.

What say you? Is she only qualified for Elected Hotties or do you see her as shaking up the staid Senate just the way she did with that stuffy Slovetzian dictator in The Beautician and the Beast?
