O.J. Simpson Gets New Digs, "Optimistic" of Appeal

UPDATE: Simpson's attorneys appealed his conviction to the Nevada Supreme Court on May 26, citing in their brief judicial misconduct, the inherent biases of an all-white jury and an overall trial that was "fundamentally unfair."

"While [the appeal] is certainly his constitutional right, I am confident the guilty verdict from the Clark County jury will stand," Clark County District Attorney David Roger said.

O.J. Simpson, welcome to your new home.

The disgraced football great arrived this morning at Nevada's High Desert State Prison, where he could very well end up spending the rest of his life in the wake of his conviction last week for an armed shakedown of two memorabilia dealers.

Simpson, 61, is one of 3,000 inmates in the all-male, medium-security facility. But he hopes he won't be staying there for his full term, which could stretch from 9 to 33 years.

E! News has learned from a Simpson insider that the Naked Gun star is "cautiously optimistic" about his chances of being freed on appeal.

"O.J. has lost 20 pounds in prison, he's working on staying in shape and eating better," the source says, trying to put a positive spin on Simpson's incarceration, before conceding:

"He's also noticeably grayer because he's stopped coloring his hair."
