McCain: "I Couldn't Be Happier With Sarah Palin"

John McCain didn't win the election, but he did claim a seat on The Tonight Show couch for his first postelection interview.

Take that, David Letterman.

The Arizona Republican sat down with Jay Leno to discuss the campaign, president-elect Barack Obama and Joes Lieberman and the Plumber.

He also answered questions about his running mate, Sarah Palin.

"She inspired people. She still does," said McCain. "I couldn't be happier with Sarah Palin. And she's going back to be a great governor, and I think she will play a big role in the future of this country."

While he spoke movingly about Veterans Day, the senator also made time to crack a few jokes, including this one in which he explained how he spent his day after losing the election.

"Cindy and I went down to get a cup of coffee," he said. "Not the newspaper. I knew what it was going to say."

And when Leno asked McCain if he thought he faced any hostility from the media, the senator quipped, "You should have seen The View."

What did you think of McCain's appearance? Sound off in the comments.
