Mackenzie Phillips Cops to Cocaine, Gets Treatment

Mackenzie Phillips will be taking it one day at a time…in a court-ordered drug-diversion program.
The former sitcom star was ordered to complete 18 months in such a program in court this morning after pleading guilty to one of three charges she faced as a result of her August airport arrest, felony cocaine possession.
"I want to thank the Los Angeles Police Department and the Airport Police for stopping me and probably saving my life," Phillips told the court.
Judge Keith L. Schwartz said that the charge against the actress, who is currently enrolled in a live-in treatment center in Louisiana, would be dismissed upon Phillips' successful completion of the program.
On Aug. 27, the 48-year-old actress-singer was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after trying unsuccessfully to smuggle baggies of narcotics past security screeners.
Several days after the incident, the One Day at a Time star was charged with one felony count each of possession of cocaine and heroin as well as misdemeanor unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle or syringe.
By the time she was charged, just days after the bust, Phillips had already entered into a drug-treatment program, thus resulting in the nearly two-month-long delay in her arraignment.
A progress report hearing has been set for Jan. 22.
