Hudson Family Sets Date for Private Funeral, Launches Memorial Foundation

Despite the publicity the Hudson family's tragedy has received this week, their mourning will be strictly a family affair.
A private memorial service for Jennifer Hudson's slain mother, brother and nephew will be held at Chicago's Apostolic Church of God on Monday morning, the family confirmed today.
The service will be open to invited guests only. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made for the newly created Hudson-King Domestic Violence Protection Fund, named in honor of the tragedy's three victims, 57-year-old Darnell Donerson, 29-year-old Jason Hudson and 7-year-old Julian King.
It's unclear whether a public service will also take place, though the Hudson Funeral Home, which is owned by the Oscar winner's aunt and is handling the arrangements, will make an announcement regarding a potential open memorial tomorrow.
As it is, shrines have already been erected and vigils held outside the Englewood home where Donerson and Hudson were found dead of multiple gunshot wounds last Friday.
No arrests have yet been made in the trio's slayings, though 27-year-old William Balfour, King's stepfather and the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, is being held in custody.
While yesterday afternoon Chicago police recovered a .45-caliber gun they believe to be the murder weapon, Balfour has reportedly refused thus far to take a polygraph test.
Also Thursday, Jennifer and Julia Hudson announced that they are launching the Hudson-King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims, in honor of their dearly departed. The non-profit organization's intent is to provide all sorts of care—from clothing and food to counseling—for families who have lost loved ones to violent crime.
