Britney Jury: More Questions, Still No Verdict

Inquiring minds...apparently account for the entirety of Britney Spears' jury.

Roughly an hour after resuming deliberations for a third day, the jurors in the pop star's misdemeanor driving-without-a-California-license trial posed yet another question to the judge and heard yet more arguments from both the prosecution and defense before returning to ponder the singer's fate.

"I have never seen this before," Spears' attorney, Michael Flanagan, told reporters of the unusual proceedings. "I've never heard of adding closing arguments."

The eight-woman, four-man panel, who informed Van Nuys Superior Court Judge James A. Steele that they remained deadlocked, queried the judge this morning on the legal difference between a "domicile" and a residence—an attempt, no doubt, to bring clarity to the validity of Spears' Louisiana license.

Attorneys for both sides were then allowed to take five minutes to deliver additional closing arguments in an attempt to help sway the jury one way or another.

"Since there were so many questions yesterday, attorneys might have more insight," Steele told the courtroom.

"They did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the license was not in her possession," Flanagan told the jury after the prosecution asked them to find Spears guilty.

"Mr. Spears testified on her behalf that she had a valid Louisiana license with her at all times."

The jury has been ordered to deliver an update, in writing, within 45 minutes informing the judge of whether they are making any headway.

The panel said yesterday they were locked at 10-2, but did not indicate toward which verdict the majority was leaning.

The 26-year-old was charged with driving without a valid California driver's license as a result of a fender bender that took place in August 2007. At the time, she was in possession of a Louisiana state driver's license, something her attorney, Michael Flanagan, has long claimed should not be a problem, as Spears maintains a residence in the southern state.
