This probably isn't the type of strike Gary Coleman was hoping for.
The former Diff'rent Strokes star pleaded not guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and disorderly conduct stemming from his Sept. 7 run-in with a fellow patron at a Payson, Utah, bowling alley.
Coleman, 40, is accused of picking a fight with—and then trying to run over—24-year-old Colton Rushton after the younger man tried to snap pictures of the actor and his on-off wife Shannon Price with his cell phone.
According to the assault lawsuit Rushton subsequently filed Sept. 17, Coleman's bodyguard told Rushton inside the venue that pictures of the erstwhile child star cost $20 a pop.
Later on that night, police said, Coleman shoved Rushton in the chest, grabbed his phone and then tried to back him over with his truck in the bowling alley parking lot.
During a brief appearance with his client today in Payson Justice Court, attorney Randy Kester professed Coleman's innocence in the matter, saying that Rushton provoked the incident and Coleman did what anyone else in his situation would have done, per the Salt Lake City Tribune.
Meanwhile, Rushton's lawyer, Dustin Lance, said that Coleman needs to be held accountable for his "conscious stuipidity."
A pretrial conference has been set for Dec. 2. Coleman is facing up to six months in jail for the reckless driving charge and could be fined for disorderly conduct.
