The Future of HSM: Sequels, Footloose and...College?
Disney
High School Musical 3 isn't out for a few weeks, but the cast has already said their goodbyes and, at a press conference Sunday, spilled about plans for the future.
Resident dreamboat Zac Efron has two movies completed and awaiting releases—17 Again and Me and Orson Welles—but there is one particular project we're most concerned about interested in. That would be the remake of Footloose, starring Zac and directed by HSM's Kenny Ortega.
The Zefron gave us an official update at a press conference. "Footloose is coming together, actually," he told us. "We're trying to figure out the right way to do it, but yeah. It seems like it's going to happen." Whether that's good news or bad news depends on when you were born.
And how 'bout all that High School Musical 4 talk?
Producer Bill Borden made it clear another sequel was in the works, but he only offered details about what it won't be about. "Personally," he said, "I don't think it will be College Musical."
The plot of HSM3 hints the most at a glorious return of Sharpay Evans, but Ashley Tisdale wasn't so confident about the idea. "I don't know anything about that," the Tiz said. "It is flattering to have an open door for my character. But I am doing other projects as well and moving on."
One thing is for sure though: The film's three newbies—Matt Prokop, Jemma McKenzie-Brown and Justin Martin—are cute and everything, but they definitely have a daunting task ahead of them if they want to win over new fans.
