Feel-Good Friday: Brangelina

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie George Pimentel/WireImage.com

It's not often a story reaches through the almost impenetrable scales surrounding our hearts, but this one got us meowing like a newborn kitten:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are beloved in New Orleans, where he shot The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. "They make a big point to shop at local restaurants and shops to support the local economy," says Planet Gossip cohost Tina Dirmann.

But there's more to their efforts than simply bringing attention to the hurricane-ravaged city.

One of their biggest projects right now, a source tells Dirmann, is donating to charities rebuilding the public schools. "Sixty-six schools closed after Katrina, but in part due to their charities, 23 schools have reopened with new paint, new desks and new tools."

And to the critics who see Brangelina's do-gooding as an excuse for attention: "They are very low profile on this project," says the source.

Just ignore for a second that Maddox attends the ultrapricey Lycée Francais de New York—Angie and Brad are doing their part to rebuild public schools so everyone can get an education. It's hard to find fault in that.

Okay, we probably could, but today, we choose not to!
