Katie's Sputum Spasm

Somewhere, Matt Lauer may be smiling. Dan Rather, too. That’s because AP is reporting from New York magazine that Katie Couric slapped a coworker last month on the set of the CBS Evening News. The reason? Couric was peeved when the news editor inserted the word sputum into a story about tuberculosis. Never mind that the usage was perfectly appropriate, Katie reportedly hates the word sputum and repeatedly slapped the editor on the arm. The newsroom has been understandably tense amid ratings that have plummeted like a paralyzed falcon since Katie’s jump from Today. Hey Katie, cheer up, it could be worse. Sputum, sputum, sputum!
