Five Screamy Seconds with Mena Suvari

Day of the Dead: Mena Suvari Nu Image/Millennium Films
I am so proud. I spoke to Mena Suvari at a feel good/do good/good jewelry for Malawi event she was hosting at the Max Azria Store in West Hollywood. It's a great cause. And it's great that she's not Madonna. And it's also great that she went off topic to talk bruises, which are all part of a day's work on her two upcoming scary movies, Day of the Dead and Stuck.

So, how much did you practice your scream?
No, I didn't. In Day of the Dead, I'm more kind of "save the day" than victim. More fighting, less screaming.

Do you save the world, the boys, the day?
Yeah, I kind of save the day. It's a lot of fun. It's the first action film I had ever done. I did all my own stunts. It was pretty grueling, six-day weeks.

You get banged up pretty good?
Yeah, we'd compare our bruises and our injuries and see who would win. Actually, my costar AnnaLynne McCord, she had to jump a fence. And she had almost like a soccer ball-size bruise.

A soccer ball? Yikes!
Yeah, I know! So, I took a photo. And both of my legs were all bruised.

Ouch. So, are these movies more blood or more screams?
Well, Day of the Dead is like Dawn of the Dead—blood, action. And Stuck (with Stephen Rea), it's really dark. It's not so much horror. It's psychologically dark.

Sounds good to me. I like it when the American Beauty goes dark. Hey, you saw her in Spun, right? Tell me you did. You must have! If you didn't, go get it now, okay? Okay.
