Told Ya: Oscar Does Not Do Fat Suits

Norbit Paramount Pictures

Fat suits, unlike prosthetic noses, are Academy kryptonite. Seriously, check it out.

  1. Eddie Murphy was considered something of a shoo-in for Best Supporting Actor. Then there was all this fear that his recent work in the critically acclaimed (LOL!) Norbit might impede his chances of taking home the gold. But come on. That hype was mainly for fun, at least it seemed until Alan Arkin was up onstage setting his new gold toy on the floor.
  2. Just a few days ago, it seemed like Little Miss Sunshine was soaring to the top of Best Picture prediction lists. If anything, just because it would be so scandalous for Martin Scorsese to get the shaft yet again. But chew on this: Abigail Breslin wore a fat suit—not of Norbit proportions, obviously, but still.

So, if my theory holds firm, Eddie and Abigail never had a real shot at gold. There's only one way to know if I'm right. Next year, let's stick Helen Mirren in something from Martin Lawrence and see what happens.
